To ask what to do since I've been a fool...

I've name changed because frankly I'm sitting here wondering why I've been so fucking stupid!

Our combi boiler broke two weeks ago... we couldn't afford a new one (oil combi so around £3500) so looked on Ebay, found a couple that where being sold by a business seller. Rang him and he spent an hour chatting to me about my boiler helping me to try and fix it, really went above and beyond and sounded like an old school genuine guy. I got outbid on the boiler but rang him and he said he was having another coming in the next couple of days.

We were desperate since we have no hot water or heating and I agreed to buy the boiler from him. I sent the money (£900) to his bank and we agreed he would send the boiler this week. I've been calling him since Monday and his phone is going straight to voicemail and despite leaving tons of messages he's not returning my calls.

Now If I were reading this I would be screaming at the poster telling them how stupid they were to send the money. I've been had haven't I. I don't have money to buy another one and don't know what the hell I'm going to do.

Any advise very welcome but please avoid telling me how much of an idiot I am. If you knew me you would never believe I could have been so bloody stupid. I am sat here sobbing because I genuinely don't know what I'm going to do.

Brilliant. If anyone deserved a bargain it's you. Long may your heat and hot water continue. And I still hope you get your money back from the rat.

Trumpton · 19/10/2015 21:35

So pleased to hear your news . Our old boiler was in situ when we bought this house 22 years ago and it wasn't new then . It's in an outbuilding as well . I hope your replacement boiler lasts as long .
Good luck in getting your money back .

So pleased for you op and give yourself a big pat on the back for sorting it out so quickly in time for winter. All the best in recovering your losses, you sound like you are on track to do so. Good for you for turning the situation around

ThatsDissapointing · 19/10/2015 23:03

That's brilliant news.
Please let us know how you get on with getting your money back even if it takes ages.
Good luck.

WE HAVE OUR MONEY BACK!!

So sorry for shouting but I am over the moon and clearly no fool since I have managed to rectify my balls in super quick time.

I started by contacting Action Fraud who opened a case and gave me step by step instructions on what to do.

I sent a special delivery letter demanding my money back within 14 days whilst letting him know what would happen next if it didn't appear.

I bombarded him daily with numerous calls and texts (all ignored) politely requested my money back whilst informing him what I would be doing next.

I have posted on various FB sites within his area stating my dilemma and asking for information. Most got deleted but not before many had seen the status.

And hey presto... he called me today (from his business number,
that I had been calling, along with two other numbers) giving me all kinds of bullshit excuses, the like of which I didn't think possible, about why he hadn't returned any of my calls or texts. I played it cool whilst he waffled on and on and just kept reiterating that I would now just prefer my money back whilst reminding him of my rights. We were getting nowhere so I told him I was going to finish the call and continue with my actions. At this point he agreed and asked for my bank details. I still didn't believe it would happen but he sent my money within the last hour.

I can't tell you how relieved I am... Thanks again to all.

Oh that's great news. I was coming on to tell you that I bought clothes from a guy in America which never turned up, and I had no comeback. About 6 months later he contacted me to say his father had been sick and died in Turkey, and he'd been looking after him. He refunded my money and sent me two free tops. Sometimes there is a good outcome Smile

That's fantastic news. I'm so pleased for you. You must be so relieved.

£900 is a lot of money.

ILiveAtTheBeach · 22/10/2015 14:06

Great news you got your money back. In future please only send money via paypal - that way you are protected.

As you have his Sort code and Account number, you could call his Bank and tell them that he is acting fraudulently. They will place a Stop on his account, meaning that the account is frozen and he won't be able to get at his money. That's what I did, when DH got scammed.

honeyroar · 22/10/2015 14:09

Wonderful news! So pleased for you. And how fantastic that you've ended up paying hundreds less as well. That all your oil money for the year hopefully. Well done you.
