To wonder what has happened to the word "Me"?

Everything I read is "myself and...." or "X and myself...." It doesn't make sense. Why are people using this more and more. What is wrong with good old "me" and "I" ?

One agrees with you.

AliceInUnderpants · 14/10/2015 21:32

Myself can't say myself has actually noticed this.

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2015 21:33

I myself fully agree.

Hissy · 14/10/2015 21:34

Myself too

elephantoverthehill · 14/10/2015 21:35

Me me me me - I hear it often

Olivepip59 · 14/10/2015 21:56

Is that enough explanation for yourself? Is yourself satisfied with ourselves delivery of an explanation to yourself for the use of myself ALL THE TIME??

I judge. Sorry, I do.

MaidOfStars · 14/10/2015 21:59

People think it sounds posh.

AnthonyBlanche · 14/10/2015 22:01

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact myself....

One of my pet hates and I secretly judge all people who have lost the use of me but found myself as being a bit dim.

Olivepip59 · 14/10/2015 22:04

Anthony Blanche - here's a question for yourself, without hesitation - do you declaim TS Elliot in a wobbly voice after lunching on plovers' eggs?

Please say yes.

reallybadidea · 14/10/2015 22:10

'I' is frequently misused too though eg 'my friend gave my husband and I a toaster for Christmas'.

wigglesrock · 14/10/2015 22:17

I use it - myself and my mum went shopping, the kids and myself went to the pictures. I'm Irish - most people I know say it.

JumpJockey · 14/10/2015 22:17

Oh lord reallybadidea that reminds me of dd's family book at nursery... Despite writing clearly on the back who was in each photo, they were all labelled with things like 'My godmother A and I' and 'I and grandpa'. :(

Mrsbennington · 14/10/2015 22:17

It just grates every time I see it as it really doesn't make sense, I am not a real pedant and can handle some things but "myself" (bangs head against wall) Why would people think its posh? It just sounds stupid.

ShowOfHands · 14/10/2015 22:19

It's everywhere isn't it?

I was sat/stood is now commonplace too.

Hissy · 14/10/2015 22:24

Most of my clients are estate agents... Need I say more?

It's a fucking plague I tell you!

Olivepip59 · 14/10/2015 22:24

catford myself is burning with shame Grin

Hissy · 14/10/2015 22:27

I don't just judge... I inwardly RAGE!

And I won't reply to an email if it uses any form of self incorrectly.

So there. :)

catfordbetty · 14/10/2015 22:28

Myself will let it go just this once.

honeylulu · 14/10/2015 22:30

Myself is a reflexive pronoun. It should only be used when the proper noun or correct pronoun has already been used earlier in the sentence. For example, "I thought that myself" or "Fred took a piece of cake for himself". For some reason people do seem to think it sounds posher to use it in place of I, irrespective of the grammatical rule. It doesn't. It makes them sound like a Travelodge receptionist.

neepsandtatties · 14/10/2015 22:30

The Apprentice, right? I noticed and it irritated me too.

He sounded like a dick.

Whatabout · 14/10/2015 22:31

Toddler has over used the word me "me do it" to the point we never want to fucking hear it again, methinks.

Olivepip59 · 14/10/2015 22:31

Yourself is the absolute soul of kindness
