To consider getting work done in a Dental Training School? Anyone ever been?

I cannot find a good NHS dentist in London.

Pretty sure I need a filling Sad and thinking of trying to get it done at one of the training schools.

Am I mad?? If it's anything like getting my hair cut by students I will be happy as they are are very thoroughly supervised Grin BUT am I taking a huge risk of something going badly wrong?

Have you ever done this?

I had my wisdom teeth taken out twenty years ago at Leeds Dental Institute. Both dentists who attended me had only qualified a few before (younger than me). They did an excellent job so if my story is anything to go by then proceed with your local Dental School.

...a few months before.

My friend has just had loads of work done after their own dentist massively messed up. The students did a brilliant job.

I believe it takes a long time because it gets checked at stages. But at least it gets checked so should be as good or even better than a normal dentist.

I did about 17 years ago, major bridgework. It became so complex the lecturer did some of it. I still have the bridge. If it ever needs replacing my dentist has said it will cost drumroll....... 6k!

Touch wood, I've never needed any major work but several of my colleagues do this every time. They all seem very happy.

No, dental students are awesome but be prepared. I remember the first day I had to do two check ups (in 2.5hours) and I was horrified. It just takes a long time but the work is excellent (if I do say so myself).

I'm currently being treated by my local NHS Dental Hospital.

For one specific thing that I have been referred for by my current dentist.

After reading the 'bumph' I don't see how you will get yourself in there - they are not for people to just randomly turn up and get seen even if you claim it's an emergency.

If you can find a way of being seen and treated then go for it, my student is great and I'm going to ask him where he intends to practice so I can go to him.

i did this twice. !st the good news - teeth checked and cleaned -all good. But when i was a student and went to a uni dental school , the student made such a hack of it the supervisor took over. I was left in a stall to recover which took some time.
