AIBU to wear makeup to work everyday?

Ok, bear with me! I know it's a silly question but I'm curious to hear your opinions on this.

I wear makeup five to six days a week. I'm very particular about getting it off and I follow a good skincare routine once I'm back home, but I do wear it to work and for special occasions on weekends.

A friend of mine, who has perfect skin, criticised me today and said that I'm ruining my skin, causing it to age and darken. The conversation with her has really terrified me and I'm seriously worried about this now.

Do you agree that wearing makeup everyday is very bad for the skin? How many of you wear makeup to work everyday? Have you found that it has affected your skin badly?

And how much of it do you tend to have on on a daily basis? I wear light foundation, under eye concealer, eyeliner, blush, mascara and lip balm. If I have time I'll do a nice eye makeup, mostly because it's fun!

I have never had the best skin- it's sensitive to environmental changes so tends to go blotchy or spotty in the sun, wind etc. I also have slight pigmentation, so I just feel more confident and groomed with some coverage on. Does that seem unreasonable?

Children are observant shocker! Grin
I don't see why that would in any way affect anyone wearing or not wearing make up.

Once the central heating and harsher winter weather kicks in I tend to wear more make up as I do find it protects my skin from the extremes and from drying out.

It reminds me of Jeckle and Hyde.

Don't get to stressed about it purpleDaisies. It's only my opinion and observation. I could be right,I could be wrong. Who cares really? People are still going to go into work one day as a work of art and the next as a plain Jane- no matter what I think.

PurpleDaisies · 15/10/2015 17:56

I'm not stressed jo. I've been to work without wearing make up and shock horror the sky didn't fall in even though last time I saw the same pupil I was wearing it. I am not in a negative mood or sending out any negative signs. I most certainly do not look like a plain Jane.

I think it is deeply depressing that in 2015 some women are still judging others on their decision whether or not to wear make up.

Jo4040 · 15/10/2015 18:01

Nope. Never said you was a plain Jane purpleDaisies. I didn't say the sky would fall either.

People are still going to go into work one day as a work of art and the next as a plain Jane- no matter what I think.

How does this not imply people who aren't wearing make up are plain Janes?

Can't believe your getting so tetchy over this. Blimey. I'd hate to get into a debate with you about something that your really passionate about. I should have wrote some people.

I wear makeup everyday.
It's fine for your skin. I've gone through periods of not wearing it and it makes no difference.
Just make sure you regularly wash your brushes, sponges etc and take it off properly at night.

I wear makeup everyday, unless |I am not leaving the house.
I am not vain, I just look like a corpse without it !

maddy68 · 15/10/2015 19:29

Never worn makeup in my life (I'm in my 40s), not to work or to anywhere. It's just paint.

And at the office, in the ladies' I have the wonderful option of washing my face whenever I feel like it - wonderfully refreshing.
