to wonder why it seems to be so hard for most organisations to send an email to tell a candidate they haven't got the job?

Just a quick 'Dear candidate, sorry but you were unsuccessful this time'. Hell. even a text message would do.

I'm mid 30s and I've been for 5 interviews in my life. Got all of them apart from the first and they only interviewed 4 people for it, they never got back with feedback even though I asked twice. This as over 15 years ago!

It's not sending 1000 emails to rejected applicants, is it though?

It's ONE email. BCC'ed.

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your application but on this occasion you have been unsuccessful.

That took 20 seconds to type...

Shakey15000 · 19/10/2015 11:37

And while we're at it, what IS it with agencies?? Not ringing back after you ring and leave a message. That's if you can get hold of them in the first place. Not forwarding your cv to employers, despite you fitting the criteria.

And beware the derogated contracts folks. This means they sidestep the Agency Workers Rights entitling an agency worker to equal pay after 12wks. Despicable but as yet, perfectly legal.

Wouldn't surprise me if in say 5 years time there's adverts saying "Were you on a derogated contract between 20blah blah. You may be entitled to compensation"

CerseiHeartsJaime4ever · 19/10/2015 11:56

Exactly. It just lets you know that the company is bad with time management and probably employs far less staff than they need so over works the ones they do have.

It takes one minute to send a BCC email.

I had an interesting experience with one agency: I'd applied for a job which I seemed to be a good fit for, spending several hours on a 10-page application form, and got an automated receipt email which confirmed that they had received my application.

The original advert had said "If you haven't heard from us by x date, assume your application has been unsuccessful" - I'm not massively keen on this approach but it is better than not knowing at all, so was happy to leave it at that.

However, the automated email from the agency encouraged applicants to "Be Proactive! Showcase your telephone manner by following up on your application - it shows professionalism and persistence! Employers are much more likely to notice someone who takes the initiative." So, taking that as my cue, I called to follow up on my application, only to be told crossly that only successful applicants were being contacted and why had I called anyway? I pointed out that they might want to change their email in that case....

Agencies ... Yes I've sent a few CVs to these and heard absolutely nothing back. It is rude and I know I'm qualified so I have adopted the attitude that it's their loss.

Companies can send messages to multiple applicants. In my current workplace there were over 5000 applications for just under 500 vacancies. All applicants were advised of the outcome of their applications.

My student DD had an interview with a pizza company and they said they'd let her know. They never bothered so I sent an email to the area manager because I found it so rude.

Now he has another interview! 3 weeks and I day after the first.

Email of every person interviewed into a spreadsheet. Basic 'sorry you were not successful' email typed up. Copy all email addresses into BCC field of email.
Send.

He got the job. He's so happy Grin

Thats great new Irian And its great that hes out of the clutches of that exploitative factory.

If i were him i would be a pissed off at your DH though. Did your DH have to work 12 hour days for no wage when he was younger?

Attitudes like his can be very divisive
