i abhor and detest computer games and my ds (6) has none and has never played any....

not sure of my stance on this after discovering .I.T now has equal weighting in the new curriculum as Maths and Literacy.

What is your opinion?

Of course it does Rdoo, massively so, in fact I am sure that she is on her way to emulating the two STEM masters degrees her parents have, without a shadow of a doubt. Biscuit

Two each, lavendersun, or merely between 'em?

Given your loose interpretation of the concept of 'avoiding something completely', I feel some clarification is required...

There's nothing wrong with appropriate computer games in moderation. Believe it or not I was playing them thirty years ago when I was a kid and I've turned out fine.
My son is 9, he plays Minecraft but his time on there is managed.
Your DS will need to learn how to use computers, if not playing games. It is a vital skill in the modern world imo.

DD is 8 and has a DSi and a leap pad. She uses school computers and does her maths homework online. I have a PS3 and PS4 she isnt allowed to use.

Ds now 12 got given a 2nd had Nintendo thing when he was 5. It lived in the car for motorway trips.

When he was 9 (I think), he got a ds for Xmas.

He also got a phone when he was 9. This was for my safety, as I was blacking out while pregnant with dd.

He got an old iPod at 4. Not a touch screen. Put all his story CDs on it for him. He loved that. It's still around somewhere.

He still has the phone and ds too. And a psp, to watch films on.

Dd is 2 1/2. I have an old iPod touch that she plays on if we are on the motorway sometimes. Saves her trashing dd's games! She has played on it 3 times since I got it in July.

Half the time, she holds it to her ears and says hello nanny... Which is cute!

We bought DS1 a 2nd hand DSlite this summer when he was 5y4m. He had unrestricted screen time, so long as he was wearing his eye patch.

Turns out it's hard to make him do close up work during the school holidays for 3 hours a day, which is what he was "prescribed" at the time. The DS helped massively. He also plays on our Wii sometimes, and uses Education City (from school) and Moshi Monster (free) accounts, or the CBeebies games sometimes on the laptop. And occasionally plays Minecraft on my tablet or uses apps on DH's phone.

Reading it as a list it's quite a lot, but most stuff he won't touch from one week to the next, he just has access to it. And that access is removed for bad behaviour.
