To turn burgers into spaghetti bolognaise?

Toyorkshireandbeyond · 12/10/2015 15:47

Ok, not particularly on par with some of the threads on AIBU? but I need advice of the culinary kind.

I know, I know, I'm a complete and utter attention whore and I have posted here primarily for traffic.

We had a party in the summer for DD's birthday, I overestimated how many burgers I needed. Our freezer has been choc a block full of them so I'm having a mass exodus . . . . But, because I jut cannot stand the thought of eating MORE chuffing burgers, I am wondering if it would be agreeable to chop em up and fry em. A bit like, you know, mince??

Has anyone ever done this??

I'm not sure how the texture would be... Alternatively you could chop into large chunks - maybe quarters- and make spaghetti with meatballs- I've done that before and it worked fine!

Crazycatlady27 · 12/10/2015 15:49

Chop them up and make sort of meatballs with them to have with spaghetti

TooOldForThisNow · 12/10/2015 15:49

Meatballs would work well.

JoySzasz · 12/10/2015 15:50

I'm nuts, l thought you'd typed burglar
I thought it was going to be an understandable post about another home invasion!

TheBunnyOfDoom · 12/10/2015 15:50

YY, make them into meatballs!

flustercuck · 12/10/2015 15:51

I quarter them and roll them up into meatballs. I fry them with onions, add tinned tomatoes, herbs and garlic, cook away til it's all lovely and serve over spaghetti. Easy.

ouryve · 12/10/2015 15:51

I'd just squish them into meatballs.

Toyorkshireandbeyond · 12/10/2015 15:52

Never even thought of meatballs!! Excellent idea! Thank you all!

Yes, I've done burgers to meatballs before, and also used them for bolognaise/chilli. Depends how fancy-schmanzy your burgers are, really - the more binder/rusk in 'em, the harder they are to crumble back to mince. Squishing them into a slightly different shape is fine, though.

Yambabe · 12/10/2015 15:52

Yep, I do meatballs with burgers too.

For extra yumminess, make them stuffed with a small piece of cheese in the middle.....

TeenAndTween · 12/10/2015 15:54

We used to do this a million years ago at boarding school, so I don't see why not.

Toyorkshireandbeyond · 12/10/2015 15:54

Oohhhhh yambabe thank you, sounds delicious. Can't wait to try . . . .

That sounds delicious!

Probably won't work if the burgers are the thin patty type though

This might work

But my first thought was meatballs too.

VimFuego101 · 12/10/2015 16:29

DH did this once and it was a bit minging. They were frozen patty type ones though that were fairly solid, rather than a looser, less solid home made one.

My mum used to do a stir fry with burgers sliced into thin strips - that was quite nice.

CatMilkMan · 12/10/2015 16:36

Definitely meatballs! If your going to stuff them with cheese I use mozzarella cubes and leave them in the freezer for half an hour before putting them in to the raw beef.
I make the meatballs then put them straight in to a slow cooker with a ragu sauce and cook them for 5 1/2 hours on low.
On Saturday I made mozzarella stuffed meatballs in a slow cooker without sauce and served them as canapés with a ragu sauce on the side and they went down really well.

Seeyounearertime · 12/10/2015 16:38

I'd be super lazy and just cut them into chunks.
Fry an onion till soft, throw in chunks of burgers, brown them all, chop a clove of garlic in there with it, pour a tin of beans straight in.
Serve into bowls with a bit of grated cheese on top.
Proper winter warmer comfort food.

Bettercallsaul1 · 12/10/2015 16:43

That sounds good, Seeyou! ? Nice and simple!

Bettercallsaul1 · 12/10/2015 16:44

(Not sure why that question mark was there, by the way!)

Seeyounearertime · 12/10/2015 16:51

I normally make it with odd left over sausages when there's not enough to have them as sausages. Lol. (I'm a tight fit and can make 4 sausages feed 5 Grin)

Seeyounearertime · 12/10/2015 16:52

Lmfao and smfh that should say tight GIT not a tight FIT oooeeerrr. Blush

DillieDoily · 12/10/2015 17:20

Meatballs would be good.

I used leftover burgers and sausages to make a very tasty meatloaf after our last BBQ.

whois · 12/10/2015 17:25

+1 for meatballs rather than mince them up

Toyorkshireandbeyond · 12/10/2015 21:47

Did them with cheese in, mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm mmmmmm even DP was impressed. Used cheddar as opposed to mozzarella though

Yep another one here for meatballs!! If that is your choice then highly recommend an egg to bind them when broken down and mixed up (not advising this as it took me AGES but I once passed a few burgers through a rather large garlic press, excellent way to mince then albeit not simple and time consuming) and mozzarella in the middle. Meatloaf is certainly another option to think about, again in our house it's stuffed with cheese!!!

I know you said you didn't want burgers again and that's certainly fine (though the burger lover in me weeps for such a statement) but you could also jazz up your burgers a bit and make them more interesting as well maybe? You could reduce the patty size and with a few small rolls make some little sliders perhaps making a few different toppings for batches (Google sliders if you're not sure what they are). Another favourite of mine is the juicy lucy - thin the burger patties out, place an awesome thin cheese on one (gooey is best, stretchy is good too), place another patty on top and crimp the edges together to make a cheese-filled burger. Can also be filled with other ingredients too should you wish, I once did these with a little bit of pesto which worked very well!!!

My word I'm bloody starving now....
