To have my post delivered at this time?

WindYouUp · 10/10/2015 09:33

My morning post arrives around 10.30am. Has been like this since we moved here ten years ago.

From this week my post is now arriving at 1pm which it seems thus will now be my usual time.

AIBU to think that Royal Mail should really be delivering post some time in the morning and not when half the day has gone!

What time does everyone else's postie come?

At our old offices it used to arrive between 1-2pm. It was really awkward as I was often hanging around in the morning then it was a rush to deal with it before I had to leave work at 3pm.

We moved offices a mile up the road & now it comes around 10-11am. We are so much more efficient & less stressed.

TittyBiskwits · 10/10/2015 10:47

Years and years ago, our post used to come before 9 with a second delivery at 11 (showing my age there).

Now, it comes anytime between 10 and 4.30. If it's something that doesn't fit through the letterbox, it always, always, without fail, comes when there's no one in.

LarrytheCucumber · 10/10/2015 11:02

Our post comes at different times (or not at all) according to the day. Saturday is 9.30, or sometimes earlier. Monday rarely see a postman. Tuesday to Friday any time from 12.30 to 2.30. And then some of the post is likely to be for next door, the man over the road or someone at the same number in the next street.
If you get post delivered at a regular time you are doing well.

wasonthelist · 10/10/2015 11:10

My post clmes between 2-3 pm. It is fabulously reliable and my postperson ks absolutely lovely. I really really don't get why everyones post has to be there at 7am - if that was even possible. Nothing that comes to me by post is time critical these days, so a day or two makes no difference.

wasonthelist · 10/10/2015 11:12

Btw I can see it must be a thankless and boringly repetitive job.

stripytees · 10/10/2015 11:38

Mine is different every day. One day this week it was as late as 5:45pm.

I prefer it to come by 11am because I'm at home until lunch time a couple of days a week at the moment, and if it's early I can sign for parcels. But obviously most people are at work all day anyway and it makes no difference to them.

Thunderblunder · 10/10/2015 11:48

Monday to Friday it can be anytime between 11 and 3.30 although it does tend to be nearer 3.30 most days. Saturday it's always here dead on 8.30. You could set your watch by it. It's the same postman as well.

jevoudrais · 10/10/2015 12:19

Mine used to come between 11-12. Then it moved to 2-3pm. In new house it tends to come before 11.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 10/10/2015 12:21

Why does it matter?

Unacceptable · 10/10/2015 14:25

Perhaps to ensure they have happy customers they should ask each and every household what time they prefer and then rather than plan routes in the way they do posties should flit from house to house in time order?

Everyone would be happy then and I'm sure the posties (in a much less secure job than they used to be with heavier rounds and more restrictions) won't mind needing to get from house number 1 at 9am to house 347 and back to number 3 etc etc

Leafitout · 10/10/2015 14:59

Ours comes at 6.30pm but on a good day it can be around 4pm and the postie looks tired, stressed and pissed off.

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 12/10/2015 22:40

Why does it matter?

I work from home.

It also matters because we frequently receive post addressed to other people and likewise find our misdirected post put through our letter box randomly, obviously by the people who received it in error. I realize this isn't absolutely part of the op, but it is indicative of the level of service we receive.

Interestingly when we have relief posties our mail arrives much earlier in the day, is actually through the letterbox and hasn't so far included misdirected items. It never stinks of smoke either.

Clearly my problem isn't really the service, it's simply the level of service delivered by the regular delivery man, whose colleagues always manage to perform to a different standard. A very good standard.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/10/2015 22:52

Not sure really. It varies. However the other week the post man was delivering post at 6pm on a Friday evening. Which I did find a bit naughty tbh. What about those who may have received bad letters and then had the whole weekend to worry about it, and with it being after 6, not many places are still open are they.
I suffer from severe anxiety. And panic disorder And if I had received s bad letter that evening. I'm certain I would have had a full blown panic attack.

BreconBeBuggered · 12/10/2015 23:57

Ours comes any time between 9 and 6, though it's normally around the lunchtime mark. I suppose it matters if you're waiting in for something specific. Second deliveries weren't that long ago, surely? DS1 can remember them clearly, and he's still a student. When he was at primary, the first post would arrive before he set off for school, and the second would be before lunch.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 13/10/2015 00:05

Usually between 11 and 1 if it's our normal post person. It has been 5pm if she's away. Parcels normally come about midday.

Things have changed at Royal Mail and domestic deliveries aren't the management's priority. It'll be every other day delivery soon.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/10/2015 00:06

I used to prefer early delivery because anything that had to be in by return of post (my local box was collected at 4 pm) could be done not in too much of a rush.

Now they (annoyingly) collect at 9 am so I'd have to drive into town regardless of the time it arrived if I want it to go the same day.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 13/10/2015 00:08

lighthouse we've always had Saturday post so what's the difference between Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 10am? Both are useless for office hours.

Fluffyears · 13/10/2015 00:16

I remember the days of 2 X post. Morning and afternoon now it's down to one delivery. You can pay for a pre-9 service but it costs s but as our company stopped paying.

AGnu · 13/10/2015 00:19

I was just thinking about this the other day. When I was little one of the most exciting things about birthdays because I'm weird like that was going downstairs in the morning to find all the cards on the mat. There there'd be another delivery at around 10am too. DS1's birthday is coming up soon & it occurred to me that his birthday will be mostly over by the time our post arrives at around 4-5pm. I had a little sad moment thinking about how he wouldn't get the same excitement I had as a child... then I got over it! Grin

boobubsmum · 13/10/2015 00:20

Between 11:30 and 1 here, parcels come in a separate van, usually before 12.

steff13 · 13/10/2015 00:30

It wouldn't really be possible to deliver everyone's mail in the morning, though, would it?

My mail usually comes around 3:30, but my mailman walks his route, so it might be later if it's raining or snowing.

TheSkiingGardener · 13/10/2015 00:40

Everyone used to get a first and second post so it was possible. In the days when they had more staff and less computers and consultants telling them how to be efficient.

ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 13/10/2015 00:42

Who cares? Delivering the post takes all day, do you want everyones post somehow delivered at your perfect time or do you just want yours and everyone else can fuck off for themselves?

also, your title makes no sense at all.
