Tuition flyer outside DC primary school... AIB to think that's not ok?

Someone has popped a tuition flyer with little tear-off labels for contact details on a lamppost outside my DC's primary school. They're offering KS2 and 11+ tuition... AIBU to think this is a bit pushy? Fair enough to advertise them in the paper or online but I think outside primary schools is a bit far!

Oh gosh no that's not pushy.

Pushy is standing just down the road from every gate and handing out leaflets in the street.

My local Primary has to keep sending out letters to parents/carers, telling them they have no association with the school.

wigglesrock · 10/10/2015 00:15

I think it's quite enterprising actually. How's it pushy - it's on a lamp post outside the school - pushy would be handing out leaflets with sweets attached to it.

mojitomother · 10/10/2015 00:16

Haha ok fair enough Grin

Just thought it was a tad OTT. You're right though, it could be worse I guess!!

I have never heard of this. It doesn't happen here but I'm in scotland.

MidniteScribbler · 10/10/2015 02:43

You don't actually have to take any of the tear off strips you know? You could just walk on by and get on with your day.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 10/10/2015 02:57

We get flyers for shit in their bookbags from the school Hmm really irrelevant ones too.

Bottlecap · 10/10/2015 06:49

You do sound a bit delicate.

Spartans · 10/10/2015 07:14

It's a bit far?

It's a flyer advertising something, to the people it's relevant to. If you don't want or need it, walk on by. Do you find billboards pushy?

DrSausagedog · 10/10/2015 08:10

Doesn't sound at all pushy to me. They've found a relevant advertising spot, that's all.

TheNewStatesman · 10/10/2015 08:17

As long as they are legally allowed to advertise there, no.

Given the new ridiculous expectations for the end of Year 6, I think tutors are probably going to make a killing in the next few years.

Oysterbabe · 10/10/2015 09:53

Those lamposts can be really fucking pushy. One if them pressure sold me timeshare, it just kept going on and on until it wore me down.

This^

Narp · 10/10/2015 15:12

It's advertising something of interest to some parents, where most parents are likely to be. It's just advertising.

It doesn't say anything about the quality of the product (actually, I think round here most tutors are inundated with no need to advertise. So if I were in that market - which I'm not - a lamppost advert might make me think they weren't that good)

Narp · 10/10/2015 15:12

Pushy would be someone putting them in your child's book bag

MidniteScribbler · 10/10/2015 20:21

We get paid for flyers that are put in the home folders. Last year we were able to buy twelve extra iPads just by handing them out. Pretty easy money for a school. It's worth it for us, although if a parent wants to step up and fundraise the equivalent amount, then we'll happily stop.

SquareFrances · 10/10/2015 20:29

My children's school notice board has an advert for the loca private school which always makes me smile for some reason

Surely just a good place to advertise that particular service? I can't see the issue myself.
