To go absolutely fucking spare with the builder

I have a 1 and a 2 year old and am currently 35 weeks pregnant

We are having a lot of building work done which was due to be completed at the end of next week but obviously won't be.

One of the things that we are having done is having our bathrooms refitted. Our main family bathroom is nearly finished so I thought I would treat myself to a bath tonight for the first time. Just cleaned the brand new bath out to find that it has two deep gouges in it. Presumably caused by twats storing tools etc in it even though I have specifically asked people not to.

The shower controls already need replaced as they have been scratched and the bath tap was scratched after a fucking idiot turned the bath upside down with the tap attached to plasterboard the ceiling.

The joiner has spent the last day and a half carefully boxing everything in and building a cupboard at the end of the bath and it has all been sealed by the plumber. All of this will need to be ripped out.

The bath panel that we want to return will probably not be returnable as it appears to have been damaged. I assume by the builder as we've not touched it

I'm fucking fuming. I'm really very cross. This work was meant to be completed in good time - even with contingency built in - so that we could get everything decorated and carpeted in good time before the baby came. I'm going nuts trying to keep the 1 and 2 year old safe in the house and am desperate to get the builders out and my house back.

Yanbu of course, but I would advise against trying to get someone else in to finish it, no builder wants to take on half finished work in case they get blamed for mistakes made by the first one that reveal themselves later. We had this issue when our idiot builder fucked off halfway through our bathroom to work for his dad, had to finish it ourselves. We could only get someone in willing to seal the shower, we had to do everything else...

It all sounds very good so far Gobbo.

Make sure you take lots of photos before and after and get a guarantee on the enamelling holding.

Do everything by text too even if you have spoken on the phone clarify by text after.

YANBU - I'm almost at the end of a build and had my bathroom replaced - not ONCE did he store things in the bath - he tied it all away at night - stored stuff UNDER the bath (end panel went on last - or will!) - rubble etc went straight out into the skip

I'd be livid

You will need excellent ventilation during and after the re-enamelling. Door to bathroom shut and sealed as much as possible, window open, maybe a fan blowing fumes out the window.

Just spoken to the builder and seems he's carried out an inquisition!

The joiner and plumber are excellent at cleaning up and vacuum before they leave each night plus take all tools away or store them in an empty room. The electrician is getting the blame. Although I have said to the builder that I am cross that tiles were put on the bath as there was no room in the skip.

Thanks for the tip math. I think we will go out for the day. dD's roomis next to that bathroom so she can come in with us for a few nights in a travel cot to be in the safe side

YAnBU. It sounds like a nightmare Thanks

I hope the re-enamelling works for you. We didn't have great success with it but obviously others have. I hope you get it all sorted soon!

Friend has had roofers disappear halfway through re-tiling the roof - apparently he was arrested and put on remand. Later on in the build she came home from work to find that the plasterer had mixed the plaster in her brand new bath!!!! Shock
Another friend found that her cowboy plasterer had plastered over the wallpaper on her landing - tried to convince her that it was standard practice and blamed her for not ventilating the house properly when it all started peeling off!!!

A friend of mine had workmen in the house and came back from work early to find one of them using his landline to phone a porn number, he'd dropped his trousers and was having a *k. Absolutely true story.
