School newsletter and spelling

Ok, maybe I'm being pedantic. However, this week's school newsletter advertised an English language evening for parents and students. Rather than writing about how this was part of the school's 'parents in partnership' programme, it came under the heading 'parent's in partnership'... Seriously?! Oh, the irony. I just wish they'd proofread sometimes. Every weekly newsletter seems to contain little gems like this and it does worry me, to be honest. So - AIBU to email the school and ask them to take more care in future?

MumoftheMoment - are you going to send in 100g of sunflower seeds and compost? or some ready grown flower heads? Grin

The odd mistake is fine, typo, bad day, just missed, whatever.

A letter with numerous mistakes, generally bad grammar, or mistakes in nearly every letter, I'd have more issue with.

Mistakes in marketing materials or official documents representing the school, like pp's "formally", I'd judge. Between the writer, proofreaders, and printer, that should have been caught.

'Wrongly spelt words'? Is it a particular type of flour?

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 09/10/2015 21:42

I'm afraid I'd mark it up in red ink with proper proofreading symbols and return it to the school.

I may even have done that once or twice

My kids' PREVIOUS school, previous INDEPENDENT school has just sent out a fundraising flyer for a new pavilion. On the back page they listed all the school "Governers" (sic).

This isn't the first time they've dropped a clanger. On A level results day they blasted "A Level Celebratations" all over the website homepage.

I think I might have just outed myself.

The email used photo's twice and photos once, all to indicate a plural.

I haven't, and won't, complain. They have other things to spend their time on. But there have been a few instances of misuse of apostrophes, incorrect dates, wrong class names etc. and we're only a few weeks into the term. It's not a great introduction to the school to be honest.

Our latest newsletter has incorrect dates on it, and not for the first time either.

After the October break I'm thinking of sending DS back a day early as per their letter. :)

Our school once issued all their annual class photos with the header "Grammer School" instead of "Grammar School".

Every single photo had to be re-issued. Costly mistake, that one Grin
