to want a refund for a flying lesson?

Have NC as this will easily out me.

My DH got me a voucher for a flying lesson for my birthday. Booked for my birthday at a specific time.

We get there at the specific time - left to wait for an hour. No explanation.

I go and ask what's going on, they state we'll start in another half an hour. Again no explanation.

I ask to reschedule as I have other commitments that day. (Which I have done) The T/C's say that vouchers are non refundable.

I'm not really comfortable with this, but this is £200!!!

Tbh, I'm feel bad for DH more than myself grrr.

I have to go through with this, don't I?

YANBU

They have not kept their end of the deal.

You should be offered the chance to re-book, on your terms.

You should have an explanation of the delays.

I am not sure, but I don't think they have to give a refund if they offer a replacement day.

Obviously, some things are beyond their control (mechanical failure, bad weather) but these are easily explained!

I have rebooked.

But they were so dam rude!

Does anybody know if Sec 75 on the CC would work in this situation?

Also, I wouldn't really want to get into a plane with rude, disorganised people in charge!

Grounded2015 · 09/10/2015 16:26

Basically ruined my birthday.

I'm not precious about it normally, but my poor DH had organised this for me.

Usually when you book flying lessons they do say the time may change, but you would expect an explanation ie weather, other planes due in etc.

Dhs flying club run behind sometimes but they usually say why. We do plan to be there a good couple of hours longer than we need though. For an hour flying we allow 3.5 hours of the day. Rarely actually need it.

I think YABU, I did a skydive, we paid, drove 100 miles waited all day, the weather wasn't suitable, we went back another day.

OurBlanche · 09/10/2015 16:46

Given that the reason could have been dangerous cross winds or similar, which they wouldn't explain clearly so as not to terrify you, you may be a bit U. But they should have given you some mollifying explanation.

DS went for a trial flying lesson as part of his18th birthday present. They told him to ring on the day to check on the weather. It was fairly windy but they said if he really wanted to go on that day, the pilot would take him. He re-boked it for 2 days later and the weather was fine. They were running a little late and then had a slight technical issue with the plane they were going to use but they kept us informed and checked that the delay was ok and we didn't have to be elsewhere. DS was fortunately not nervous about the trip so unaffected by the delay - I would have been Hmm about the technical fault on a plane I was getting into!

I hope you get your flight soon and enjoy it.

Grounded2015 · 10/10/2015 09:09

An explanation would've been nice.

I have no idea why we waited so long or why a further wait was necessary.

Did you ask why?

Grounded2015 · 10/10/2015 09:24

Yes - he changed the subject.

I think they'd forgotten about us.
