To be panicking about dog poo?

Please can someone talk some sense into me?

I panic all the time about getting dog poo on my shoes, DDs shoes, the pushchair therefore it then coming in the house etc etc I'm constantly checking to see if we have it on our shoes, whether it's ahead of us, where it is. I won't let DDs run on the grass in case it gets on their shoes. Ahhhh, I'm worried I'm ruining their childhood because of my silly thoughts. Are they silly? AIBU?

I actually think something should be done about the poo rather than the unsuspecting victim being told to lighten up. So many of our parks are ruined by it

I agree with this. I used to be like you OP, when we lived in London (the place is caked in the stuff). Now we have dogs and live in an area where, in two years I have never ever seen a steamy pile, much less stepped in one. Might suprise you to know that we live in an area that is populated by stray dogs and free roaming pets. Which just goes to show, it's the owners, not the dogs.

I have a similar ... phobia? ... Fear?

When my DCs were little we had a Great Dane; so big poo!

I couldn't bare the thought of any poo on the lawn at all as the DCs played there and i just couldn't get my head around the fact that you cant get the grass properly clean Shock. Bits/smears left behind.

Trained the dogs to always go on the concrete because i could clean and disinfect properly.

You could have a Shit Kit by the door you come in by. Gloves, wipes, plastic bags to pop the shoes in until you can do a proper clean.

EponasWildDaughter · 09/10/2015 17:26

Meant to add - i always feel a bit queezy about sitting on grass in a public place or seeing little DD running on it and falling over. Just reading this thread makes me feel actually sick.

Winniethewylde · 09/10/2015 17:35

I know, it's the little smears that worry me too. I've watched dog owners pick up poo and you always get that little smudge left behind. Especially in the grass. I'm determined to be mindful but try to chill out a bit more about it though.

It's just so disgusting. Yes, there are some responsible dog owners, but I seriously doubt they're anything but a smallish minority. Why does every park have to double as a dog toilet? Couldn't we have a few dog-free parks so that children could actually have somewhere to play without getting dog shit on their shoes or clothes?

Even if dogs were banned from all parks there'd still be fox poo. They even manage to get in the fenced off play area in our local park and poo there. No doubt encouraged by picnic left overs and rubbish strewn about.
Parents were blaming dogs but it was checked out and definitely fox poo.

MissBattleaxe · 10/10/2015 14:52

Whilst I think some of the poo is fox poo, if you say that then loads of lazy dog owners will pick up even less and just blame it on foxes. Besides there are many, many more dogs than there are foxes.

It's sometimes a fox, but its usually a dog.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/10/2015 14:55

Yup. Way more dogs than foxes.

BeachysFlipFlops · 10/10/2015 15:49

But it's so much better than when I was growing up... There was no concept of picking up and no poo bins ( admittedly this was 40 years ago). Poo on shoes was way more frequent than it is now.

Not saying there's no problem, but things have progressed!
