To be annoyed that the empty shop is now an accountants and not a coffee shop?

I realise I am being unreasonable to be so annoyed that the empty shop on the way to school didn't turn into a coffee shop, it turned into a chartered accountants but I mean really, plenty of people need coffee on the way back from a school run - how many people actually need a chartered accountant?

There's a big empty shop and then a smaller one a bit further up in the village I live in and I would love someone to take them up. We have loads of cafes, a butchers and about a million hair dressers/salons. I'd love someone to open a bakery that sells lovely fresh bread and nice pastries. No idea what they will both end up as.

Cuts down on the number of karaoke machines in the town for one thing formerbabe, but maybe the coffee shops are just biding their time on that.

wankerchief · 09/10/2015 16:25

I live in Reading.
I sat and had a coffee and cake in town today, from the window I could see 6, yes 6 other coffee shops!

Its just silly how many there are

Meggymoodle · 09/10/2015 16:26

I was not planning on walking round with a cup of coffee. I was planning on going and sitting in there to drink a cup of coffee surrounded by the smell of freshly brewed coffee and freshly cooked cakes and just enjoying a small bit of peace.

We do not have a coffee shop within walking distance otherwise I would obviously be going there.

I apologise that I obviously support the ever-expanding coffee business that is ruining everyone else's life EXCEPT I CAN'T BLOODY SUPPORT IT BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ONE WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE and re. the chartered accountant, it would be hard to argue with the employment aspect as there is only ever one lady in there.

And twenty others working from home, like me.

Come to Sunny Saddleworth.

We are awash with coffee/tea shoppes.

Not enough accountants though.

Yambrel · 09/10/2015 16:31

I would love a proper bakery to open near me. We have Greggs and a poncey bakers that wants to be 'discovered' by Jay Rayner or similar.

MummaMeerkat · 09/10/2015 16:32

They are currently building a drive through coffe shop in our town. To go with the other 8. Its madness but I guess someone is buying a lot of coffee

OOAOML · 09/10/2015 16:32

I am shocked that there is a town in Britain not stuffed with coffee shops. Maybe the accountancy practice will bring lots of people to the area who will start lobbying for one.

Meggymoodle · 09/10/2015 16:34

And twenty others working from home, like me.

Great, all work from home then and let me have a coffee shop on the street.

My company all work from home, we have no need for a shop front.

Anyway, I'm sorry I got dragged into this; it wasn't supposed to be a serious thread - maybe I should have put "lighthearted" in the title - how very sad it's got to that stage. I hadn't quite realised how ridiculously uptight and snipey people get in AIBU. At least I'm assuming it's just here rather than the rest of Mumsnet. I'll leave you all to it.

OP posts:
Chippednailvarnish · 09/10/2015 16:40

Yes, I'm sure my clients want to come to see me at home.

And there's only one uptight and snipey person on this thread and they aren't an accountant!
Enjoy your flounce.

ExitPursuedByABear · 09/10/2015 16:45

Have you had too much caffeine OP?

You seem a little uptight?

::head tilt::

SoupDragon · 09/10/2015 16:49

You seem a little uptight?

As do a large proportion of the other posters in this thread!

SoupDragon · 09/10/2015 16:50

And there's only one uptight and snipey person on this thread

Oh, there are a fair few more than one.

Muckogy · 09/10/2015 16:52

opening a coffee shop is probably the quickest way to lose your house and the shirt off your back.

Janeymoo50 · 09/10/2015 16:56

A coffee on the school run???!!! Blimey, I am getting old - I just wanted to get home in time for Kilroy and a brew.

ToysDontWorkNoMore · 09/10/2015 16:57

A lovely local toy shop turned into yet another estate agents, so I get you, OP. I would have preferred just about anything else. Bloody area is full of estate agents.

TheCrowFromBelow · 09/10/2015 17:09

Here OP have a Brew and a Cake on me. Think you need one after this thread!

Bunbaker · 09/10/2015 17:10

We have a baker/local shop and a pub in our village, but that's all. I doubt very much that the mums on the school run would have been that interested in stopping for a coffee on the way home.

ilovesooty · 09/10/2015 17:17

I'm another who thinks there are simply too many coffee shops where I am really. Independent ones are overpriced and the large chain ones are just a rip off in many ways. On the other hand we have a PAYF cafe near my work. That's a venture worth supporting. I'd love to see more of those which use food that would otherwise be wasted and have a real impact on the community.
As for accountants I'm desperately trying to find a retired accountant or one taking a career break to be treasurer of the charity I chair.

Andrewofgg · 09/10/2015 18:39

Of course, every coffee-shop more is a curry house less.
