aibu that they should fix the damage to my tiles?

Large well known company delivered large kitchen appliance to my house. On the way in they use a metal trolly to drag it up the tiled front step. Edge was taken off tiles and big chips along edge, each one about size of 50p. Plus notches out of my pv door frame.

Now after much arguing with said company that damage was already there (I informed delivery drivers and company by phone as soon as happened). They have asked me to get quotes.

Problem is that tilers naturally wouldn't do the job this time of year as too cold and most good ones are booked for a couple of months. Iv had a verbal quote but having trouble getting anyone out to give me a written quote.

Also it looks like about £300 for labour plus materials. Damaged tiles can't be replaced as they don't make them anymore.

Unsure where to go from here and what would be acceptable to ask the company to pay

Why won't anyone give you a written quote? What has the time of year got to do with it? Are they unable to reasonably estimate costs so far in advance?

They caused the damage and they should fix it. It isn't your fault the tiles arent made any more, they should pay up regardless!!

The time of year shouldn't make a difference - all of the people in trades that I know are desperate for work as the weather gets worse! Most trades start winding down this time of year.

Its not too cold yet. My dh is just about to start tiling 40m of natural slate outside. As long as its not raining or freezing its ok. A decent tiler will give you a written quote even if its not acted on straight away.

Ask for an estimate not a quote

do you have legal cover on your home insurance?

might be easier going through them.
