His conference speeches point to this possibility Shock.

And what's with the 3 nuclear reactors courtesy of the Chinese? Can someone enlighten me as to why this is a good idea??

and elect a goat with a blue ribbon as leader if desired

A pig, surely?

Samcro · 06/10/2015 16:24

"they are brutal in their suddenness"
really? we have had 5 yrs of them so don't see them as sudden.
yet people still voted for them.

at least corbyn doesn't hate disabled people.
(I always remember how shocked old slimey looked when he got booed at the paralympics)

Tiredemma · 06/10/2015 16:29

never seen this before.

brilliant

Ricardian · 06/10/2015 16:30

throwing stuff at him when he was on his way into the conference centre? Not cool

If the Labour Party doesn't like the optics of violent street protest, a good strategy would be to not have as shadow chancellor a man who advocates violent street protest.

megletthesecond · 06/10/2015 16:30

sam he did didn't he. Took a crowd of tens of thousands booing the daft shit to make him twig he may not be popular. His advisors must have loathed him letting him go out like a lamb to the slaughter Grin.

Tiredemma · 06/10/2015 16:32

The Tories knew what they were doing when they made the plan to hold the Party Conference in a city that has no elected Tory MPs. They incited any feelings of unpopularity.

Lottapianos · 06/10/2015 16:48

I think you're probably right TiredEmma. They're such cynical bastards. They're too damn good at playing the media like a fiddle

ginghamcricketbox · 06/10/2015 16:48

It is the 5th time they have held their conference in Manchester and there are 5 Conservative MPs in Greater Manchester, but don't let that spoil your theory.

Tiredemma · 06/10/2015 16:54

Apologies- yes you are right Gingham. I was only looking at the more central manchester boroughs. Thanks for pointing that out for me.

Samcro · 06/10/2015 16:59

i actually felt sorry for him, cos he was so clueless.
imagine someone that dense having power........oh he does

Maudofallhopefulness · 06/10/2015 17:01

What about a Trump/Osbourne double. Trump terrifies me.

SilverOldie2 · 06/10/2015 17:08

He's excellent as Chancellor and I think he will make a good PM but there's always Boris........

BreakingDad77 · 06/10/2015 17:11

And what's with the 3 nuclear reactors courtesy of the Chinese? Can someone enlighten me as to why this is a good idea??

This is conservatism 101, rather put the money into foreign businesses to make it "cheaper" to tax payers at the loss of local companies. Dont get me wrong it will provide a local spike and some employment, but with little nuclear capacity surely the jobs are going to go to overseas engineers?

China also has terrible health and safety culture and also we are subsidising the pence per kw.

But ya know its bringing value for the tax payer (rolls eyes)

scatteroflight · 06/10/2015 17:27

"Terrifying". Really? Is this the most appropriate word to describe George Osborne? Or indeed anyone in UK politics right or left?

It's this sort of hyperbole that make people on the left look rather silly.

TalkinPeece · 06/10/2015 17:34

THe Chinese reactors are of a design that has never yet been successfully built
at a price three times wholesale
and leaving taxpayers to clear up the mess for generations

there is enough tidal power going past Somerset twice a day to power every home in Britain
use that.

Behooven · 06/10/2015 17:34

"If the Labour Party doesn't like the optics of violent street protest, a good strategy would be to not have as shadow chancellor a man who advocates violent street protest"
This^^
No credible opposition, can't be blamed on Osbourne or the Tories.

Ricardian · 06/10/2015 17:36

He's excellent as Chancellor and I think he will make a good PM

I don't agree, but unfortunately what I can predict with absolute certainty is that he will eat McDonnell alive electorally.

Osborne rose without trace in the Tory party; no-one knows what he did before he was shadow Chancellor (he was a SpAd in MAFF and a speech writer for Hague, fact fans) and he managed to fulfil those two roles without accidentally praising terrorists or shouting "hang the bitch" of his political opponents. Or if he did, he managed to do so in private.

McDonnell has a list of gaffes, which only starts with his inability to spell "foment", and his excuses for them are not convincing. On the IRA, on rioting, on "hang the bitch", on political killing: McDonnell spent too long as a back bench MP able to indulge his teenage Trot tendencies without it seemingly mattering, and he's going to get called on those statements every time he opens his mouth.

He won't get an economic hearing, which is a shame, because some of his ideas are at least worthy of debate while Osborne is pretty clueless on much beyond Thatcher-style "chancellor as housewife budgeting for the family" homilies.

But if they have a crystal ball, a good thing for a young MP to it for use it to spot if they might be a major shadow minister in their sixties. Because in that case, avoiding being an attention-seeking arse in your forties and fifties is a smart move. Corbyn could have used the same crystal ball and thought "hmm, tonight I could give a speech to lunatic headbangers or I could stay at home and read my biography of Gaitskell, hmm, let's see what Hugh does next" and if he had, the Tories wouldn't have an endless parade of bad judgement to throw at him.

TendonQueen · 06/10/2015 17:40

It scares me how likely this now looks. At the time of the Paralympics booing, it seemed like the party knew he was a major player but one the public would never warm to so thus would never get the top job, unlike lovable pretend buffoon Boris. Now they seem to believe he might be publicly acceptable. Of all the outcomes of this last election, I didn't see that one coming. Terrifying.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 06/10/2015 17:42

Always looks pasty and sweaty. Like he has spent the morning masturbating over the coffins of dead poor people. The utter shit

Brilliant.

It's this sort of hyperbole that make people on the left look rather silly

Hmm I disagree. I'll leave it at that.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/10/2015 17:51

yanbu but I would rather him that Boris that really does terrify me what does this man stand for

he is certainly trying to make the public warm to him his latest confession is that he is a fan of gangsta rap Hmm of course you are Georgie soon we shall no doubt hear stories of his family struggles his great granny's dubious job at the docks at night and his great grandfathers life in the workhouse or something similar

I think he might need a few more elocution lessons

GiddyOnZackHunt · 06/10/2015 18:00

Talkin Chinese made lock mechanisms corroded with a rapidity that made the Morris Marina look like quality goods. That in itself worries me if they get it to work!

sugar21 · 06/10/2015 18:03

I fail to see how anyone can predict who will win or who will be chancellor in 2020. Cabinets change a lot as do shadow cabinets. In 5 years time will we still have enough GPs or junior doctors, who knows but from what I have read on here alone I dont think so. Why is the ridiculous HS2 project going ahead when our existing railways badly need overhauling. What is going to be done to address the housing crisis and sky high rents in London.
When the 2020 election comes, when policies are promised and I can see through the PR lies and what the current government have or have not achieved I will decide who to vote for then.

Ricardian · 06/10/2015 18:17

In 5 years time will we still have enough GPs or junior doctors, who knows but from what I have read on here alone I dont think so.

You appear to be confusing "people yelling in echo chambers" with "reality".

You also appear to be assuming that, even if the teachers and doctors who claim they are going to get other jobs (a constant story in the media every year for the last thirty to my certain knowledge) did so, that people would think "I know, the Labour Party are just the people to fix this, after all, their negotiations with teachers and doctors were so successful last time".

Why is the ridiculous HS2 project going ahead when our existing railways badly need overhauling.

Because the last attempt to overhaul the WCML while it was in use was a complete and utter disaster, and to try to do the same work again would be (a) as much of a disaster and (b) cost more than building a new railway?

Alternatively, if you've got a low-risk plan to get more capacity on London to north of Birmingham for less than £30bn, tell ORR, because they're desperate for some good news. We need more capacity from London to Rugby/Stafford because that line is running at full capacity 18 hours a day six days a week. Building a new line is cheaper than upgrading the existing one. Making it HS-capable costs almost nothing extra. What's your alternative proposal? What is this "overhauling" of which you speak?

What is going to be done to address the housing crisis and sky high rents in London.

One might argue that one way to address housing costs in London would be to have fast, effective transport into the city from surrounding cities by, perhaps, clearing capacity on the railway to places like Milton Keynes. But apparently that's a ridiculous scheme...

TalkinPeece · 06/10/2015 18:27

Ricardian

Teachers and Doctors
Have you looked at the average age of GPs and the numbers entering the profession : its retirements not resignations that will do the damage
Teachers ditto
And Theresa May's Xenophobia will not make it any easier to import the skilled people we need - and have been importing for the last 80 years

London House Prices
Just bring in Council Tax bands I to Z and charge triple on any property kept empty more than 25% of the time
that will bring best part of a million homes back into use and drop the prices.

sugar21 · 06/10/2015 18:34

My post still stands, I will make up my mind when the time comes, having taken things into consideration then.
