AIBU to quit this job so soon

Started a job last week and have got massive doubts already which I think are more than first week nerves.

  1. Very small team, none of whom seem to get on very well resulting in tense atmosphere.
  2. No contract yet (not sure if this is a problem 1 week in?)
  3. Boss seems very impatient and I overhear him swearing at every little thing.

But... hours are perfect for me.

After I accepted this job, another place offered me a position. I explained I'd already accepted this one and didn't want to go back on word but said I'd be in touch if it didn't work out.

I hate letting people down but also can't imagine working somewhere with so much tension.

AIBU to quit before I've really given it a chance?

Contact the other place and find out of the post is still available, if it is go for it. You only have to answer to yourself and not the company and if you're feeling uncomfortable then leave now before things get worse.

I say this as someone who started a new job last Monday - I'm feeling unsettled but hoping things will improve. But if I was in your position with what you've said and what you've got on the table I'd be off without a backwards glance!

If the roles were reversed, I think that an employer with a new starter who was creating a tense atmosphere, with another good candidate to turn to would be giving notice and correcting their mistake without a backward glance.

If the other job is still available and the hours suit you then go for it.

What GinBunny said.

Agree with previous posters, contact the other company and find out the situation, then if its still on offer take it. You are probaby in a probation period anyway, that is as much for the employee as the employer.

I started a new job last year and had a bad feeling from the start but its a role that I really wanted, with great hours and pay. I think it often takes 3 months to settle into a new company but this management and the company culture didn't sit right with me. It can't be normal to constantly day dream about handing in your notice. I hung on for 9 months getting more and more stressed. I should have cut my losses much earlier on and would have been settled into a new career by now.

Go for it, if the other job is still available.

I quit a job after 3 days a few months ago. It was just not right for me.

Muckogy · 06/10/2015 12:02

quit and see if the other job is still available.
toxic workplaces can ruin your health.
ive left jobs after a few days in the past because the staff there were so horrible. leave the snakes to the snakepit and bail.
