I want one, and dh says no, he says I don't need a hamster. AIBU to suggest that nobody needs a hamster.

The hamster we had before Harry got out and disappeared for 2 weeks. Could hear her in the walls and under the floors, she even managed to get into next doors house through the walls. She was found in next their electric box, it was late evening on a wkend and the housing association wouldnt come out to retrieve her. They had to in the end as she short circuited the electrics, she came out alive but sadly had to be put to sleep the next day.

I have 3 cats 2 pugs and a hamster, as we speak the cats are out somewhere, the pugs are snoring and farting in the front room, but the hamster is sitting next to me and interacting he is the only animal in the house that's actually likes to spend time with me

I've been wondering that myself and we have 2. I went in to my son's room yesterday and opened his hamster cage to try and have a stroke of his hamster but it ran away from me so I can't even pick it up. My daughters hamster is a bit more tamed so I could stroke it but I can't pick that one up either so what's the bleeding point?
At least with my rabbits I can pick them up and bring them inside so they can have a good roam and they jump on your lap for cuddles.

I loved when dds had hamsters they seemed to like coming onto our hands to be fed they are fab now fish are pointless dh had an aquarium for years meh you cant pet a fish

hannibalismisunderstood · 05/10/2015 13:32

get guinea pigs instead, more sturdy for cuddles, don't bite, talk to you and love watching TV (DH has given one of them a Jeremy Kyle addiction...)

I think the point is that you get to buy a nice cage and all the funny things for them to play with. Unless you have endless money, this stops happening after a while and they get boring.

Side note - my hamster lived to nearly 5 years old. what did I do right/wrong?

Not sure the octopus would be up for that:

My dd has got 3 different cages, so if he gets bored in one we can use a different 1 lol
