To live without a cooker for a week

Moving house on Friday but logistics mean we have to dump our old cooker today. It's 9 years old and not worth giving away

I figure dc get a hot meal at school everyday so dh and I can come from meals we have pre cooked being microwaved for a few days. I've never not had a cooker but it will be fine?

So AIBU to only have a microwave, kettle and toasty machine for a week for a family?

We're without a kitchen for three weeks. I'm not loving it so far, but its the clutter elsewhere rather than the actual cooking. You'll be fine. Washing up in the bathroom does suck though.

I actually bought a Dualit mini oven to use till we got a new cooker but it was such poor quality when it arrived (think sharp unfinished steel edges, yikes) that it went straight back to JL. (they make the toasters here and outsource the oven mnfctr - very different standards)

I saw the induction hotplates in several places and if you can understand how to work them they look brill. (Tefal I think, about 45 quid)

There are other mini ovens too, Lakeland do one for £99.

And if the weather holds, you could get one of those disposable BBQ things for a couple of quid one night etc. Good luck with the move.

This will be us in a few weeks when we move. I have a slow cooker so am planning on doing a stew and curry in that for 2 meals (maybe more - leftovers can be microwaved), we will probably have a chip shop tea one night and survive on microwave meals and rice pouches, beans on toast type meals. Its only a week or so.

A week of eating not as healthily as usual will not do any harm.

Good luck with your move booksrock.

I did it for a year with a cheap two ring electric thing and microwave with grill. Then we had a new kitchen.
Yes I held out till he caved! Old one when we moved in was battered and turquoise!
Roast lunch out at cheap pubs on Sunday.

You should be fine,I once had to go 6 weeks without a cooker,I was on my own at the time as well with 4DC.

I batch cooked lots of meals and put them into the freezer,to save on space in the freezer things like bologneise, stews, chicken supreme ect I put into food bags once they were cooled down, they took up alot less room that way.

If you think anyone will want a hot breakfast porridge, weetabix with hot milk are popular with our 5DC,I also make scrambled eggs in our microwave and we use the toaster for crumpets, muffins, bagels, toasting waffles, croissants.

For anyone that needs a new cooker and fast we used ao.com for our cooker and washing machine, you can get them delivered the same day for a bit extra or free for next day delivery,I think they have some offers and sales on at the moment as well.

For anyone that needs a large electrical item and fast but also need it really cheep if you have one near you the charity's CCA,Sara asthma charity and the British Heart Foundation all sell electrical items that have been safety tested.
