Not permanently, just for a bit.

For three weeks now she has been Velcro dog. Nothing has changed, nothing Is new, she just suddenly has developed a fucking huge crush on me.

She follows me constantly. If I lgo to the loo she cries and scratches the door. She spends her whole day licking my feet and adoring me.

She is 4 years old and a black lab if that helps

Have you developed horrendous halitosis? - Our vet had this affliction and our dog bloody loved him - threw her paws round his neck and kissed him every time they met.
Raging bad breath was top of her 'what is my type' list.

BatTeethKeith · 04/10/2015 10:14

I don't think it's my breath, but will buy some mints, just in case.

We've had her for at least a couple of years, and this has only started recently. I rarely leave her, she comes to work with me most days, but when i do she is absolutely fine. My NDN would mention it for sure if she was barking or whining.

I'm baffled. (And trying to ignore the posts suggesting I have a serious illness)

Oh Kurri that made me giggle. Grin

Have you changed shower gel, moisturiser or perfume lately? KKdog was following me around one day and I had recently smothered myself in fancy body cream that he was rather fond of.

BatTeethKeith · 04/10/2015 11:43

Probably. I generally buy whatever is on offer. Blush

Dh says she is laying in the hall staring at the front door. She appears to be waiting for me. He's going to take her for a long walk on the beach to cheer her up.

I wonder if a local dog is in season .. smell of love ... and just necause shes been spayed, she will still get the urge ... my male cat did this and i was the object of his affection.

Are you ill? Get some health checks. Seriously. Dogs in care homes do this, they cling to someone who is about to die, then just before death, they leave. I'm not saying you're on your way out! But she's your dog, she lives with you, she might be sensing something that worries her.

Fairenuff · 04/10/2015 12:29

Just how does one start that conversation with the gp?

BatTeethKeith · 04/10/2015 12:31

Exactly. What do I do, march in the the surgery with the dog still attatched and demand a full check up? Grin

My lab has been like that for the past month or so. But she is 11 and I think it may be the start of dementia.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 04/10/2015 13:01

I've had four clingy dogs all week, its driven me up the wall! Minding my DPs two dogs and have two of my own. I have a herd of chihuahuas constantly trying to trip me up murder me and a cheerful staffy who is just getting over being poorly, so is constantly hungry. I can't sit down without being covered in at least one of them wanting a fuss and I've had a headache all week from trying to stop the arguing! I've put each of them in their time out nap area for a break! Yanbu!

helenahandbag · 04/10/2015 13:06

I have a velcro Jack Russell but generally I wish he would fuck off because as soon as he gets restless he barks and barks and barks and bites my trouser leg and finds the most obscure thing to play fetch with (socks, empty bottles, stale bits of bread that he has stolen and hidden in his bed... I'm not going to throw bits of bread around for him to chase Hmm). He's a pain in my arse and no amount of training or bribing with treats or even 5k runs will tire him out sufficiently.

DotForShort · 04/10/2015 13:09

My dog is quite affectionate but not overly clingy. However, he has recently developed the habit of trying to crawl into my lap and otherwise demanding attention whenever I am talking on the phone. Exactly like small children who have been happily absorbed in playing but will suddenly neeeeeeed you as soon as you answer the phone. Grin

I don't have any sensible advice, Keith. Your dog sounds very sweet but I can imagine how wearing it must be to have her permanently glued to your side.

cleaty · 04/10/2015 15:55

helenahandbag - Jack Russell's need a lot of exercise. They were bred as working dogs. Most kept as pets get far too little exercise.

helenahandbag · 04/10/2015 17:51

Cleaty - I know that Smile he gets three walks a day, I take him running when I can and he spends almost every Sunday out with FIL for the majority of the day, he's always knackered when he comes home. He also has more toys and puzzles than most children so he's never short of things to do!
