Am looking at eBay as I need to get some decent furniture for my DTs bedroom. have just ordered a ££ Bunk and when I look at chests of drawers or wardrobes its about £400 for a chest of drawers that isn't made of cardboard with hardwood drawer bottoms, even then they don't look amazingly made (J Lewis, Habitat, etc etc)

My kids are like roving crash test dummies: DS's Ikea Stuva doors have had drawers replaced repeatedly as the bottoms have fallen out over 5 years' use (and that's with wood glue quirted all around the bottom of the drawer before use).

SO

Who has G Plan stuff? Either from the 70 or have you bought any? Are the drawers properly made? they actually look reall well made and are surprisingly cheap on ebay fro waht they are - I'm guessing that the retro-surge hasn't reached them yet adn they are still 'deeply sad'.

AIBU to buy them (and poss a drinks cabinet for a bookshelf and a dressing table for a kids desk) and think they will be sturdy and look quite cool?

I have some Ercol side tables - they are solid wood, beautifully made and have withstood children, puppies and cats.

We also have an Ercol dining table - it is so well designed, it extends via a marvellous mechanism involving cog wheels.

I have G Plan that I have owned since 1986, it is the mahogany range that was known as Garrick. I have some of the living room display units as well and it blends in with the bedroom furniture really well. It is now in my son's bedroom.

Fresco is lovely as well.

On ebay they sometimes have the GPlan bureaux which are quite rare but are stunningly well made.

Another range to look at is Stag Minstrel, I have that as well in my DD1s bedroom. That is equally stunning, easily on a par with G Plan.

Oooh, just remembered another range that some of you may well like. Have a look on ebay at the Nathan furniture. Very similar to G Plan to look at but is of a better quality.

I bought a g-plan table and 6 chairs for £7 off eBay 3 years ago as stop gap until I could afford new. I recovered the seat pads for more contemporary material. really comfortable and sturdy, much better quality than sold in a lot of stores. I can't imagine actually wanting to replace it, but reckon I will more than recoup my costs when the time comes.
