to be addicted to Pepsi Max & unable to give up even though I quit alcohol?!

Hello all,

Since I was a little girl, I have loved fizzy drinks. Since I became a grown up and able to buy as much as I want, I have pretty much drunk it constantly throughout the day. 2-3litres per day probably. I have tried to quit a few times but never managed. I just don't feel refreshed drinking water/squash. I think it's a combination of the fizz, the taste and the caffeine that I like. Soda stream doesn't cut it. Nor own-brand. It has to be Pepsi Max. Or Diet Pepsi. And, in a pinch, Diet Coke.

2 dentists have told me my teeth are fine (they think because I just neck it and don't swirl it near my teeth).

But: it costs a hell of a lot of money. And it's a PITA having to buy loads of bottles and cart them to work/up the stairs to my flat. It's a standing joke with my family/friends/colleagues.

I don't drink tea or coffee. I don't do drugs or smoke. And I quit alcohol in January after several years of increasing addiction to that. I see quite a few people in 12-step meetings toting some Pepsi Max so maybe it's like catnip for alkies?!!

I'm not even sure I DO want to give up Pepsi. Just interested in other people's thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

I tried 3 times before I could finally wean myself off it. I'd get terrible headaches when trying to cut down and couldn't get passed them

Hello caffeine addicts!
I've been off it nearly a month!
I have saved over £100!!!
Although I bought a sodastream so i can have fizzy water whenever I want!
Nice not to have to lug bottles around.

And I can go to the shops less - dont have to go out in the rain just because im running low!
Not lost any wight tho!

That's amazing OP! Well done.
I am also addicted to Pepsi max had my first taste at work when I was 16 and 9 years later it's my main drink.

I made a resolution two years ago to kick it and lasted for 6 months without a drop, I did get twitchy about it, another drink never tasted as good and I didn't feel satisfied, I slowly started drinking it again and have done so ever since.
I feel bad to admit I drank it through pregnancy but not as much but somehow feel my LO energetic behaviour can be down to that.
However, after the dentist recently and having fillings I think I do need to kick it or at lest cut down a lot, so am thinking of buying a nutribullet (or something cheaper that works just as well) and having one large smoothie a day to get the goodness out of it I would feel a lot better knowing I'm getting nutrients.
But one thing I make sure is tht my son doesn't touch any, he is strictly only allowed milk, water or squash, and smoothies when I buy a maker

Oh god everything I have seems to be bad for my teeth. Damn!

OolonColluphid · 02/11/2015 22:28

I stopped my daily can of Pepsi Max to see if it had any relation to getting Ocular Migranes a couple of times a week, and now I only get one every few months.. well done OP.

Peanut - yep sorry. Fruit juice in particular is v bad.
Water it down a bit drink thru a straw and chew gum after. Don't brush straightaway.
