AIBU to let DD watch Friends?

An old episode was on TV the other day so DD (12) watched it with me. We have now aquired the complete 10 series on DVD but have realised there's quite a bit of innuendo & sexual talk, eg. Chandler complaining he can't 'perform' in the bedroom, Rachel talking about when Ross slept with someone else. Is she too young to be hearing this sort of thing? I'm probably being silly - she's pretty innocent but I've no clue what she talks about with her friends when I'm not around. Thanks in advance

I didn't want my dd (nearly 13) to watch it. It really normalises crappy behaviour from men and the women just have to roll their eyes and laugh about it (eg, Chandler watching porn, Monika not happy but even though she is generally V assertive she just totally lets that slide). Millions and millions more examples but that is the one I can remember. I know it is funny but looking back on it, it portrayed women badly. Also, it was very "moral" but not in kind way. When Brad Pitt turned up at the christmas dinner as an old high school friend of Ross's (who Rachel had fancied at high school) he said to Ross, so you got her pregnant but you're not marrying her, cool!".
As though Rachel's status as a human being was now dependent on Ross's decision to marry her or not! And it was Rachel who didn't want to get married. You could say that it was just the character (played by brad pitt) who didn't get that, but would a 12 year old daughter get that it was a sexist character, not a moral judgement?

Another one brought up on Ab Fab.. And er, Gimme Gimme Gimme. I remember staying up late at night to watch Ab Fab with my mum - can't remember how much I understood but I knew Patsy was taking drugs and drinking.

Still.. I was allowed to watch Father Ted, and Blackadder was the car tape of choice when I was eight or so. I was brought up in a devout Catholic family so I absolutely adored Father Ted (still do). Blackadder I think I understood parts - I remember laughing at it - but am sure some of the humour must have gone over my head.

I take your pint about some of that. And although I do find if funny, the bits that make me wince are an opportunity to preach discuss it with DS2

point, not pint

yeh, that's what I worry about when my daughter watches stuff, does she understand that that judgements that come out of a character's mouth are indicative of a judgemental character, and not a statement about society..... Does a 12 year old get that. hard to knwo. I would try and explain these things and be shshshshsD.

A girl in my DD's class (12 or 13) was watching OITB. Shock

When I watch it now I can't get over how self absorbed and horrible they are with the possible exception of chandler who gets abused by the rest of them.
