Another child maintenance one!

AIBU to think the whole system of child maintenance is abhorrent. 15% is a joke and the CSA or whatever it is now is as unhelpful as before and the call centre staff just plain mean, mostly.

The first time I called up the call centre people were delightful, it was as though I was opening a bank account and transferring the GDP of a small country however now that my case has been set up its a 'computer say no' response.

The woman I spoke with earlier with the raspy voice has really put a negative spin on my morning with her unhelpful attitude and I find it thoroughly disheartening that firstly I actually have to go via this organisation as ex is one of the feckless ones and secondly that I have to deal with a seemingly half robot half person and attempt to get them to assist in something so sensitive which is a massive reminder of the sheer hell the feckless one has put me through.

They are supposedly be helping me fgs not making it even more frustrating and complicated!! The staff say it's the system and that they can't do anything except what the system says. It's Orwellian at best!

The CSA is completely unfit for purpose, but they need to be given proper powers and the resources to be able to do their job.

15% is more than enough in some circumstances, I don't think they should put a percentage on it at all. They should treat each case individually, because families can be very different in what they need.

Osolea

Well said! I will say you don't need a lot of resources to have a decent level of client service. I'm not calling to order stationary from some remove factory somewhere.

I'm not holding them responsible for the feckless ones excuses for not being financially supportive however I will hold them responsible for not managing cases adequately.

I do feel better having had a little rant as I've had over a decade of this to-ing and fro-ing and covering for the shortfalls created while working myself into sheer exhaustion to provide for my children.

Yes I know this has all been said before Smile

I agree with what Osolea said. Each individual case is different, so I think it should be worked out on an indivual basis. The 15% is right in a lot cases where the nrp isn't earning a lot. Perhaps for really low wages it should be even lower at around 10%? Whereas someone on a really high wage it should be 30% rather than 15%. I dunno.
