Exactly that really. Our primary is not supposed to have any religious leaning at all - but the headmistress is quite religious and so we have close ties with the local church etc. That's fine, community spirit, etc.

However, I keep finding out little things - such as saying Amen at the end of assembly (which suggests there has been a prayer) and that the weekly singing assembly is hymn-based. Yesterday, dd suddenly started telling me how the world began (with God saying let there be light, apparently) and said that God is everyone's father.

I've tried to explain it's just one option but WIBU to talk to the school?

It is actually in my experience a reasonably small minority who are. The rest of us believe in evolution and most believe along the lines that genesis is basically like a poem explaining creation as if you would to a child (as we are God's children) and we have science to help us understand in depth.

Teaching creation as 7 literal days as fact is NOT allowed. Talking about the story of creation in Genesis is allowed.

Our kids are in a faith school (although not the same branch of Christianity which we are) They say basic prayers each day, teach christian values (love, kindness, grace, honesty, integrity, generosity etc) In RE lessons they have learnt about a number of faiths including differing branches of christianity, muslims, jews and hindus (this is by year 4 from what my middle one tells me she learnt)

As long as creation is done as a story and not as fact it doesn't bother me but even as a christian I would NOT want my kid taught that Genesis is scientific fact.

How much time in school do you think should be given over to things that might be true, over things that are actual facts? And many of us have a view that belief in nonsense like prayer is harmful for lots of reasons.

I assume from your post that you regard yourself as Christian in some way so of course you don't object to the myths and stories you are familiar with being promoted.

HERMIONEWEASLEY .why does it make you weep its my faith i am not ramming it down anyones throat .but like it our not our laws our values in this country all go back to christianity .creationism is not taught as thats it its only another view point .and saying prayers hurt no one at prayer time in school you can just sit and be thankful say for your family .its not all about thanking god . i mean we could pick holes in darwins theories just like we pick holes in christianity .i mean i bet no christian adult believes st peter is standing at the pearly gates and god floats about i mean thats just daft .its just some folk believe in something better than this some spirtual higher plain .and an explosion in space sounds just as stupid.

i have home educated my autistic child from age 10 .and the only thing i need to teach by law is maths /english /science no non of these .CHRISTIANITY .and the local authority come and ask every year now as a christian even i think thats daft .
