AIBU to think they could just make a decision

DC1 school will be closed unexpectedly on Monday. A little frustrating as we only found out this morning, but it's a legitimate reason and we have enough time (just!) to make alternative arrangements for the day.

DC2 goes to a nearby pre-school. It usually has the same holidays as the school but they aren't connected in any way. The legitimate reason which applies to the school doesn't apply to the pre-school. However, there are a lot of people who have DC in both. This morning I asked one of the teachers whether they would be open on Monday. They said that they didn't know and still had to make the decision (they were aware of the closure before I mentioned it). Fine, no problem. Until they said "we'll let you know by Sunday".

AIBU to think they should just make the decision today or tomorrow and let parebts know, instead of making us scramble around to rearrange childcare on a Sunday afternoon? (Yes, pre-school isn't childcare, but when you have made arrangements or work around school times, a little bit of notice is useful)

To be honest I think they should be open given that the reason for the school closing does not affect them. Not everyone with dc in pre school will have older ones at the primary school. Either way, they should have told you

I don't understand. If the reason the school is closing doesn't apply to the pre-school, and the two schools aren't connected, why would they be closing at all?

They might be closing because they usually mirror the school closings and a large proportion of the staff have children at the school

I think they should be open too, but seeing as they make a point of closing when the school is closing, they are obviously considering closing in this case too. I just wish they would tell us

(It's a health and safety reason the school will be temporarily closed, so really no reason for it to affect a pre-school in a different premises. I'm glad I mentioned it this morning as otherwise I would have assumed the pre-school would be open and wouldn't have even considered alternative arrangements for DC2, just DC1.
