AIBU to fire my cleaners?

I'm being charged for 5 hours cleaning a week. I have a normal sized 4 bedroom house. I'm normally at work when the cleaners come but this week I was in when they were here. 3 cleaners turned up for about an hour so I'm actually only getting 3 hours cleaning. They charge £12.50 an hour and for my £62.50 a week they clean bathroom and ensuite, vacuum floors, dust, and clean the kitchen. They don't clean windows, dust skirting boards, clean under anything, wash up any odd mugs left by sink. I'm not sure they even pull chairs out to vacuum under table some weeks. I try to leave house tidy so they can just get on with it. I know I'm lucky to have cleaners but AIBU to think that if they charge me for 5 hours they should do 5 hours cleaning? ( and not leave crumbs under the table)

I don't have a cleaner but what you describe sounds very poor value for money.

TheReferoo · 29/09/2015 21:11

Yanbu - you're being ripped off!! My old cleaner used to do our 4 bed in 2.5hrs inc polishing a skirts around doors/pics etc. she was a bit of a machine. You've got to think, if you're on it, how long would it realistically take you to clean it to the standard you expect? I live in a much bigger house now and it still wouldn't take me 5hrs!!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/09/2015 21:16

My cleaner does 5 hours of cleaning, and I pay her for 5 hours. If they are only there for 3 hours, pay them for 3 hours, then get someone else you can trust.

raspberryshake · 29/09/2015 21:21

Sounds rubbish for 5 hours. My cleaner is 3 hours fortnightly, same size house and she gets more done! Def no crumbs under the table....

TimeToMuskUp · 29/09/2015 21:24

Mine does 4 hours a week, 2 on a Tuesday, 2 on a Friday and the house is spotless by the time she's done, no crumbs anywhere. If I came home and found mess I'd question why I bothered to pay someone to clean up.

Bin away

msgrinch · 29/09/2015 21:33

They sound like my ex mil company. Bin them. Her company were also stealing jewellery from clients. Grim family.

Doobigetta · 29/09/2015 22:19

I have two hours a week, and in that time I expect two bathrooms and the kitchen to be cleaned reasonably thoroughly, and surfaces dusted and floors vac'd and mopped throughout the flat. And I'm not 100% convinced I'm getting what I should, so you definitely aren't, imo.

atticusclaw2 · 29/09/2015 22:22

I have five hours a week and my house is about double the size of a standard four bed. My cleaners also does bedding, dishes, washing etc.

You're being ripped off. Even if the house was immaculate after the three hours you should still only pay for the three hours.

We had a similar situation years ago. My flatmates and I were paying for 2.5 hours on Fridays (she arrived at 8am) but when I was home one Friday she stayed until 9.50, making a flimsy excuse for leaving early. Next Friday, the same happened when my flatmate's boyfriend was asleep there following a very late night at a work event (he heard her slam the front door at 9.50, she hadn't even gone into my flatmate's room to clean so didn't know he was still there).

Sacked.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 29/09/2015 22:50

Sounds very poor value. In 5 hours I get 2 bathrooms, 1 toilet, 2 kitchen, 1 dining room, 2 living rooms, 2 bedrooms, 2 halls done. (I don't have a weird house, some rooms are done twice, some bedroom aren't done at all).

mynamesnotsam · 06/10/2015 09:17

Ok the general consensus seems to be to fire them. How should I go about this? Do I need to give any notice? We've never signed a contract with them, it's always been pretty informal with communication by text or an occasional note.

Yes fire them. I could write a long piece about what my cleaners do in the time but I can't be arsed.

How did you find them? Then that's how you fire them especially if there is no contract. Big question - do they have a key?

Just sent text that you paid for 5 hours and they came for 3 and that's unacceptable and you don't trust them any more.

YANBU, my cleaner does 2 hours a week @ £12 ph, I also have a 4 bed with large conservatory, she cleans the entire house, mops all floors, makes bed if they haven't been done. No washing up as we have dishwasher and kids job is to load it. I think your being ripped off!!
