to ask for your 'What Would Mumsnet Say?!' moments

Partially inspired by the McD's thread, but also because I was sitting in BHS cafe today with DD, and a woman walked by giving us a 'look'. DD is 18 months and was drinking one of those Fruit Shoot My-5 things. My immediate thought was 'Bet she's a Mumsnetter', followed by 'What would Mumsnet say?'.

Do you ever have 'What would Mumsnet say?' moments, where you know your parenting would be worthy of bosom-hoiking, judgypants and a 20-page AIBU thread, or am I just a terrible parent? Grin

A man parked across two mum-to-be parking spaces, in a 4x4, chuffing away on a fag and blowing smoke out of his window.

I was gutted that I'd left my phone in the car and couldn't get a pic to post on AIBU Grin

Cloppysow · 27/09/2015 15:43

When i'm really hungover.

jorahmormont · 27/09/2015 15:46

Haha vind I think MN would have imploded Grin

I graduate on October 30th and I've booked into a hotel, even though I only live in the next town over. I'm going out, drinking myself into oblivion, doing karaoke, dancing on the poles, sharing a hotel room with my (gay) male friend and being a normal 21 year old for a while, while DP happily stays at home and looks after DD. The next morning I will be gloriously hanging out of my arse.

Wonder what the MN Police would make of me? Grin

When DH is behaving in a wrath inducing fashion I can now calmly turn to him and begin composing my "AIBU to LTB thread" and it has a miraculous effect. Grin

When my then 3 year old always demanded to have some of the foam from my cappuccino in a café.
I could feel the stares and I bet someone was getting their phone out to start a mn thread about me, especially as he had a fruit shoot and gingerbread man to eat.
It was DECAF!
He's gone off it now.

I had a 6 year old and a dog for an afternoon about 10 years ago. We went to the park with boy and my friend and the doggy. We had ice cream. The 6 year old shared his ice cream with the dog. I only realised after at least one post-doggy lick, and let him get on with it thinking "well, it's bit late now, damage done. " the ice cream was almost finished and I didn't fancy removing said ice cream from the little boy.

The person I was with was horrified and thought I was a Bad Person.

The boy is still alive, and hardly ever woofs now Grin

MN would have called SS

noblegiraffe · 27/09/2015 16:51

DS had a sausage roll and a fruit shoot for lunch today. It was nearly a greggs sausage roll but WHSmith was closer so it was Ginsters.

I did think of Mumsnet as he scoffed it down.

Oh mine was today Smile I took the 3 kids to the cinema, bought copious amounts of popcorn and frozen Fanta (all before 11am), wasn't sure what to do after, the sun was shining. So we went shopping where we bought glittery, character led clothing in bright pink, some silly hair stuff, new earrings (pierced ears) for my primary school aged daughters and finished it off with a trip to Burger King. The kids are now upstairs watching their tablets/phones. A very good Sunday in the wiggles house.

Of course we were going to go to Mass which probably would have been the most unmumsnetty of all our activities Wink

LoseLooseLucy · 27/09/2015 17:27

I've just been to B&Q and took my children (11 years & 9 months) into Mcdonalds and chewed the skin off a nugget to give the chicken to my 9 month old.

I glanced up and did notice one woman watching, although I couldn't tell if she was judging or not.

susielovessocks · 27/09/2015 17:43

I am having a party for my birthday next month. One of the invited guests told me she needed picking up and a bed for the night. There was a time I would have done it, but since I have been lurking here I told her to sort herself out or not bother coming. Thank you mumsnet, have a gin on me??

Hoppinggreen · 27/09/2015 17:50

Went into town to do some shopping Ds6 and DH got bored and wandered off to meet me and DD later. As they walked towards the bench I was waiting on DS was eating a Greggs sausage roll out of the bag - I thought of you lot!!!!

PuntasticUsername · 27/09/2015 18:22

Today in a restaurant (ok, not a real restaurant, Pizza Express - Strike One, right there) and I'd foolishly told toddler DS2 that he had some chocolate cake coming. So he was yelling, at the top of his very considerable little voice, "CAAAAAAKE! CAAAAAAKE!" and I was so knackered I couldn't even be arsed stopping him.

Then I got Looks, so without a word I rearranged the seating so his grandad got to entertain him, and I could carry on sipping my water and staring into space and vaguely worrying that DS1 was looking peaky and might be about to puke everywhere (he didn't, luckily, otherwise that would have been strike 3 and out).

Toastedteacakewithbutter · 27/09/2015 20:46

I took my dc shopping yesterday, got my dd's ears pierced (10 yrs) and then bought them a Greggs sausage roll which they ate from the bags whilst walking back to the car (I didn't want them to eat them in the car because I had hoovered it earlier Grin) )
I did have a 'what would mumsnet think moment '

RomComPhooey · 27/09/2015 20:56

I accidentally put Nair on my toothbrush this morning instead of toothpaste and started brushing my teeth. After I got over the initial lemonface and had washed the vile taste out of my mouth, I contemplated starting a thread about it because it might cheer another MNer up. But I went and stripped the beds instead.

pandarific · 27/09/2015 21:04

I had one of these moments in Asda today. A woman walked past with her very, very overweight approx. 8 high old girl sitting in her trolley. Poor kid.

Sighing · 27/09/2015 21:04

After a brownies trip to Cadbury World (that finished late) I took my daughters to KFC on the way home as, instead of cooking a nutritious meal from scratch, I sat around reading a book all day.
I thought of mumsnet with shame as I bumped into a mum I knew (TA at the daughters' school ... also a brownie trip mum).

SalemSaberhagen · 27/09/2015 21:07

I was sitting in the back of the car playing YouTube videos of the twirlywoos to my 1yo today for a 45 minute journey. I wondered what the MNetter who said I was ridiculous for sitting in the back with car hating DD would have said...

BockCadger · 27/09/2015 21:14

Salem I'd never judge. I'd do the exact same Wink

I sit my toddler in the food part of the trolley and don't give a thought to the poor next shopper who may have their unbagged bananas come into contact with the metal that has been sullied by shoes.

jorahmormont · 27/09/2015 21:39

Salem I sat in the back of the car with DD until she moved into her forward facing seat at 15 months.

Two MN sins there - sitting in the back AND forward facing. Jeez I really hate my child don't I? Grin

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 27/09/2015 22:36

well, you either do not love your child or it is fine because you are leaving them with an equally capable parent. 'tis 50:50 which way it will go.

I once judged parents for taking their children into the chip shop and giving them chips for tea, while I was in the chip shop, with the children, buying chips for the children's tea. Blush (rare treat, cost and health wise)

DisappointedOne · 28/09/2015 00:02

One of us always goes in the back with DD (almost 5) in the car. If only one of is is in there she goes in the front passenger seat.

We do a lot of long journeys and it means we aren't constantly stopping for things if someone is next to her.
