To think the school should not be promoting forever living shite via book bags?

I emptied Dd's school bag earlier and there was a letter in there. A whole full sheet of A4 from a forever living rep asking us parents to join her amazing successful team. Her children don't even go to the school. I'm disgusted that this is allowed. It's bad enough being bombarded with it on fb but to be spammed by the school is something else. I'm tempted to complain but I don't want to be one of those parents. So AIBU or is this wrong?

Forever living-hate them
I was once given a free bottle of the Alo Vera to try and I came out in loads of bruises all over
Shocked that a school would promote a piramid scheme like this

Junosmum · 26/09/2015 23:46

A lot of academies do this, part of ' the business model'. The content is almost irrelevant to them. It tends to be a very high up decision to allow it, so you'd need to raise it with the head or trust manager rather than the teacher.

Sighing · 27/09/2015 06:02

Schools are supposed to be promoting the 'healthy living' agenda. Pushing (no matter how tenuous a push) a food supplement (whatever it's unfounded claims) is flying in the face of that.
Flyers from school should be child oriented or family based at a push. Encouraging children to supplement/ replace actual good with a bottle of processed crap doesn't look like responsible education. Hmm

Sighing · 27/09/2015 06:02

*actual FOOD (g'ah)

Mistigri · 27/09/2015 06:11

Send the letter back to the school office with a covering note requesting that they don't send similar material in future.

I don't mind a flyer for a kids' sports club but this is unacceptable. It might even be illegal, if it's a member of staff who is promoting FL.

sleepyelectricsheep · 27/09/2015 08:05

It's absolutely not on. By allowing Forever Living stuff to go out in book bags some people may assume incorrectly that the school endorses FL and therefore it is legit.

If the school are going to put adverts in bookbags they need to have a policy about what they allow, and exploitative pyramid schemes should definitely not be on the list.

NotYouNaanBread · 27/09/2015 08:08

I would definitely complaint to the school. It has absolutely no bearing on their education and no place in their school/school bag.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 27/09/2015 08:10

Catnip, how did your friend's DS's teacher respond to him saying his mum didn't want junk mail?

catfordbetty · 27/09/2015 08:44

You could just put it in the bin. But if you want to complain, do so to the head.

MinecraftWonder · 27/09/2015 09:00

YANBU, putting stuff like that in bookbags is completely inappropriate.

We get lots of random leaflets in bookbags - about various theatre groups and clubs/offers on days out/special events/fairs and fetes to raise money for xyz.

But they're always related to dc - things the dc could do, go to or take part in.

I would not take kindly to having random marketing trash included - bring it up with the head.

Catnappingcatnip · 27/09/2015 11:41

Empress the teacher apparently laughed and gave it to him anyway.

We've had stuff from some new miracle cure called 'Timeless Vie' based on parsley of all things.

Who the hell makes this stuff up?

This^^. Op if the teacher laughed, write a letter to the Head. I think FL is morally dodgy and exploitative and I would be writing to my HT if I found such piffle in book bags.

Fishbone- Timeless Vie? Wow that sounds like a bad bandwagon translation of Forever Living.

Fishboneschokus · 27/09/2015 11:59

That is EXACTLY what it is.
:)

This reminds me of the bounty mess

fastdaytears · 27/09/2015 12:34

Don't knock Timeless Vie! I only lurk on that thread as am in awe of the hilarious posters! I can't contribute but I'm very much amused by reading.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 27/09/2015 12:36

What is Forever Living Confused I see it often mentioned on here

Scared to look too closely to website as might be taken in by subliminal messages and it's down at the moment

Sallyingforth · 27/09/2015 14:17

Timeless Vie is a piss-take of Forever Living...

Timeless Vie - timeless opportunity! Timeless Vie extract du parslai for best health, wealth and beauty!

LieselVonTwat · 27/09/2015 14:46

YANBU.

And yes, whoever asked, it can indeed give you the squits. Aloe vera has a laxative effect if you consume enough, which is how the bots all lose weight on their detoxes. You will, if you eat something that makes you crap your guts out for a week.

ShebaShimmyShake · 27/09/2015 17:59

A Facebook friend is always pushing her FL crap on everyone. I did waver a little when she was doing Clean 9 and claimed to have lost 7 inches in a week or whatever. But I didn't have £250 to spare, plus my husband said if I wasted my money on it he would strap me to the bed and force feed me potatoes for a week.

stopfaffing · 27/09/2015 19:29

Timeless Vie! There's a facebook page and now a Twitter page Grin. A bit of MN fun parodying MLMs. Take a look...

Agree on writing to the Head if the teacher didn't take him seriously. Also if the school think it's ok to spam the book bags I'd want to be very sure they weren't going to share parents' contact details with their carefully selected partners.

DenPasNaGamitheisKaliteraEgo · 28/09/2015 09:33

Round here, it's generally people standing outside the school gates handing out flyers to children as they come out.

I hate it, but there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it.

Catnappingcatnip · 28/09/2015 10:32

That fb page is hilarious stop.
