To hate September

Never liked it.

It's generally cold in the morning and night, hot in the day so you don't know what to wear.

DH is moody about his 40th looming and says September birthdays are shit because you are always the first to get old!

The nights are drawing in at a terrifying pace.

But the main thing about it is it lasts forever - is this just me?? It was DHs birthday last week and it seems like YEARS have passed. It's always like this - September every year lasts forever.

I was wondering if it is just me!

I want it to be properly cold.

I am too fat and have no decent summery clothes!

I always think of September as a new beginning. I tend to do the 'spring' cleaning and de-cluttering now.

I like it if the weather is nice like this weekend, an extended bit of summer. But also that it gets cosy at night.
I love the spiders webs on a dewy morning.

I also like October, November and December. Birthdays galore here, as well as all the other stuff.
January is the worst month ever unless you spend it in the Caribbean of course Smile

YABU. September's a lovely month - the last sunny warm days but with a hint of crispness in the air. Lovely! January is, beyond doubt, the worst month of the year. Dark, depressingly drab after the twinkle of Christmas lights are gone, no money and everyone dies (or at least they do in our family...)

hotfuzzra · 21/09/2015 08:49

I love September. I have always viewed it as the beginning of the new year even since leaving university. I'm 34 now. I love summer ending (on the topic of when your birthdays are, my birthday is August and it's always shit, the weather is so unpredictable so you can't plan a summery garden party, and friends are often away on holiday) probably as I'm naturally quite pasty and don't like getting my legs out and I hate being too hot in our muggy summers, I love the leaves beginning to turn, I love rugby so the new season cranks up, I love starting to get excited about Christmas, I love the nights getting darker and thinking about putting the heating on, I love scarves and gilets and a little bit of rain is lovely.
October is a bit meh. November to December is exciting, January quite low, then by February I hate the cold and can't wait for summer!!! Grin

I wish I could hibernate from the end of September until the end of March, maybe just waking up for a few Christmas parties.

Sighing · 21/09/2015 09:02

I love it! My birthday (40) was yesterday. I can wear longsleeves. Sometimes the sun is out. The children aren't yet exhausted by school.
If he's worried about getting old first perhaps cultivate some non school year friends? It's a really long time (primary) since that was my life!

Blackcloudsbrightsky · 21/09/2015 09:03

He does! But it remains a source of great indignation! Grin

I don't help matters by endlessly winding him up about it

Marie me too. Minus the Christmas parties.

Blackcloudsbrightsky · 21/09/2015 10:12

But you'd miss MY birthday then! Grin

I love September. Great for Scottish holidays as the midgies and tourists are declining and the weather is often good (not today obviously). If there are rainy days I can stay in and read books/ play instruments etc and not feel I should be out doing stuff. The evenings are still light. There are lots of fungi about.
November and February are my least favourite months. Cold and permagloom.

YANAgurl1973 · 21/09/2015 10:55

I love September. Hate heat and love the crisper mornings, nights starting to draw in,Christmas things appearing in the shops, Halloween and bonfire night. Cosy clothes, hot choc. I could go on. Hate January tho,so depressing. Look forward to dsughter's birthday at the end of Feb.

Muckogy · 21/09/2015 12:11

YANBU.
i don't mind september. Its november, january and february that i hate.
i don't like winter at all.
i'm considering moving to a hotter country in the future to avoid the miserable winters we have here.

autumnintheair · 21/09/2015 12:18

I dont mind sept, and I like turning thoughts to halloween ( we dress the house) and christmas.

Christmas gets me through the dark months of oct and november, its grey, cold jan I have issues with, and feb and march.

autumnintheair · 21/09/2015 12:18

muck

its a good idea, as an old person struggling in these winters..if you can move do.

OOAOML · 21/09/2015 12:20

He should try a January birthday - Christmas, New Year, Birthday, well that's it for the year then isn't it? Dark, cold, miserable - on my 18th birthday I slipped twice on ice. As a child I had parties with only a few people there because the rest were snowed in (rural upbringing). Feels like months stretching ahead of you till it gets light/warm again. (Disclaimer: I wonder if I have SAD? I really struggle with the phase of the year when there is limited natural light)

OOAOML · 21/09/2015 12:22

I quite like September - the children are settled back at school, I'm gearing up for my latest OU course, I almost feel it is a more 'start of the year' than January, which I just think of as dark, cold and miserable.
