Limited I never thought a Greggs' pie would bring a tear to my eye but it has. How lovely that you have that funny, touching memory.

You'd get on well with my DH. He loves a tongue and horseradish sandwich. He has bought the yellow sticker tongue and goodness knows what other peculiar deli meats whilst I've looked Hmm at it.

Lots of useful stuff on here (Love Food Hate Waste) about not wasting food and what the different date labels mean (which ones we can ignore!)
england.lovefoodhatewaste.com/content/date-labels-infographic
Hot Dates to Remember - The most important dates are the following
• The ‘Use By’ is there for your safety and is only found on foods where there is a safety risk. Therefore food should not be eaten past this date, but it can be eaten or frozen right up to it.
• The ‘Best Before’ date relates to quality – it will be at its peak condition at this time – food will still be safe to eat after the date, but it may not be at its best.
• The ‘Sell By’ and ‘Display Until’ dates are just for the shops for internal stock control not shoppers so they can be safely ignored. If others in your house always throw food away at its Sell By scribble it out – just make sure you leave any Use By clearly displayed. Also try writing an ‘opened on’ date to milk or juice so that everyone knows how long they have to use them.

Reviving this thread to report that I've just got a 15 inch part-baked ciabatta down from £1.50 to 99p. I was looking and the person marking them down told me to wait a minute because he was about to do it. Perhaps I have that reputation now.

I've eaten them before and it'll make a really nice steak sandwich for two with meat stashed in the freezer with lettuce, onions and tomatoes I get free as a barter deal from the greengrocers - it's not sexual favours, it's free DVDS.

I'll have a bit of bread left over for soldiers and dippy-in egg.

I also got three double packs of chicken breasts with a ginger, spring onion, garlic and a Thai sauce reduced by £1.20 so it works out at £1.19 a portion. There were three others but I didn't want to be greedy Wink.

I've had to pay full price for the mustard and the rice and I know at my mum's Sainsbury's the bread would have been reduced to 20p Sad

But all in all...

I've mostly come back to thank people for saying nice things about my mum and her Greggs steak pie Smile

Oh and we had spaghetti bolognaise tonight with mince that had yesterday's date on. Smelt absolutely fine, normal deep pink colour, tasted as good as usual. Gave it an extra minute or so of cooking before adding the tomatoes etc but don't think it was needed.
