I'm getting married next year and my fiance is crazy about dinosaurs. He's fallen in love with this ring and I feel like it has his personality written all over it. Also fits in my budget very well...

My only concern is that it won't last forever. I know titanium is a popular wedding band material but what if the bone cracks or the meteorite cracks?

What are your thoughts?

I think they're lovely. If it is something he would like and wear, then why not.

AlpacaPicnic · 20/09/2015 11:26

Love it!
No idea about the authenticity or how well it would last...
Maybe ask for some previous customer feedback?

ProfessorPickles · 20/09/2015 11:26

I didn't even know this was a thing!
I'd go for it and then if it does break and there's nothing that can be done get another?
My dad has a regular wedding ring and because he works with his hands it has actually worn down to the point where it snapped. So he has just got a new one
So I'd say go for it!

OrderofWork · 20/09/2015 11:29

Are jewellers really allowed to chop up t Rex bones for jewellery, or are they more common than I thought?

I like the ring but as a lover of all things ancient I don't like the idea of the "damage" done to make it. I'd also have some concerns about authenticity.

I wouldn't worry about it breaking though, that can happen to any ring and it's more likely to get lost Grin

wickedlazy · 20/09/2015 11:31

I'd check it's authenticity, then go for it Grin

ImperialBlether · 20/09/2015 11:37

So, so many dinosaurs have been found that they can turn their bones into rings?!

PlopsyWhopsy · 20/09/2015 11:37

Go for it! It's an amazing ring! When I clicked on the link I expected to see a ring add just of bone, but the way it is, the main structure of the ring would hold as any normal wedding ring

wickedlazy · 20/09/2015 11:39

I know they can use ashes in rings and stuff now, I imagine the dino bones are ground up and used the same way? But are they from an actually t-rex?

MaidOfStars · 20/09/2015 11:42

I'm guessing this ring contains homeopathic levels of dinosaur bone.

CarolPeletier · 20/09/2015 11:44

Wow! Are you marrying Ross Geller? Are you Rachel?

wickedlazy · 20/09/2015 11:46

It says the stardust from a meteorite found in campo del cielo, in Argentina. Can you ask for pics of raw materials?

thegiddylimit · 20/09/2015 11:49

That is so cool. From the description it sounds like they are using tiny amounts of t rex ground up bone from a reputable supplier. We have loads of fossils in the house bought very cheaply for the kids, I'd guess it's similar, there will be bits of fossils in any fossil hunting ground that have no scientific value but can be used for this kind of thing.

OrderofWork · 20/09/2015 11:50

Oh I agree many fossils are common place, but t-rex?

53rdAndBird · 20/09/2015 11:51

Bone turns to stone as part of the fossilisation process, so it wouldn't be dinosaur bone no matter where they got it. And I'd be a bit dubious about how they'd prove it was T. rex anyway - there haven't been that many T. rex fossils found. I love the idea of the ring, though, so if you can grill them about the authenticity to your satisfaction then I'd go for it if I were you!

OneBreathAfterAnother · 20/09/2015 12:01

It's not at all legit, but if the idea of it makes you happy, go for it.

Hygge · 20/09/2015 13:06

I love those rings, whatever they are made of, they are beautiful.

I have one favourited on Etsy and like to imagine it was made very carefully by John Hammond for the gift shop at Jurassic Park. Grin

notquitehuman · 20/09/2015 14:24

How about getting some dinosaur poo made into a ring? I have some in a necklace!

I'm only half kidding...

Fatmomma99 · 20/09/2015 14:36

another one who thinks they look amazing and if your OH would love it and you can afford, I'd say it's a win-win! Go for it!

attheendoftheday · 20/09/2015 14:47

I love it, I would go for it!

GreyAndGoldInTheMeadow · 20/09/2015 14:53

It's very pretty, but I seriously doubt its actually t Rex bone and meteorite!

PermetsTu · 20/09/2015 15:00

My SIL and her DW have wooden wedding rings which look similar. They're stunning.

fuckingfuming · 20/09/2015 15:25

Agatized Dinosaur Bone or "dino bone" is the result of fossilized bone from dinosaurs in which the cellular structure has been replaced with quartz, leaving the bone structure intact. The resulting stone is a 7 on the Mohs scale.

Many excellent specimens of dinosaur bone are found in and around the American southwest. Dinosaur bone ranges in color from brown to black with splotches of red, blue and bright yellow. Dark yellow-gold and red dinosaur bone is also found, but is more rare. The coloring of the specimen is due to impurities that were in the surrounding sediment.

It is illegal to collect dino bone on US state or federal lands thus making agatized dinosaur bone more valuable.

you used to be able to collect it, i have a piece. it is a recognized gemstone now. i got a cabochon of it to make into something for my youngest daughter as she is dino mad. not got AROUND TO IT YET THOUGH.

fuckingfuming · 20/09/2015 15:25

Awesome ring even if it isn't 'authentic'!
