Any good ideas? DH seems to think she will sleep a lot...

Would GPs in the uK write a scrip for a sedative for an 8 hour flight? I had no luck. MrsTerryPratchett, that sounds like ...... ptsd you have there!

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 19/09/2015 20:39

Re walking up and down the aisle we were told dc weren't allowed to be on the floor and had to be carried or on seat at all times. Is she a young 1? Or nearly 2?

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 21:36

Why are you having to fly with a baby? Genuinely interested to know.

WhatDoesTheUrbaneFoxSay · 19/09/2015 21:39

to get to the destination???

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 21:41

Well obviously yes but why? Surely not for a holiday? Must be something important.

Murfles · 19/09/2015 21:49

angel I used to do 10 hour flights when my children were aged 1-5. I had 4 children at the time. Does it matter why the OP needs/wishes to fly? What do you mean surely not for a holiday Some people do actually fly with children on 10 hour plus flights for a holiday and to visit family.

WhatDoesTheUrbaneFoxSay · 19/09/2015 21:55

because, it's a pay off. when I did it, it was a tough flight, three weeks in florida, and then a tough flight home. But overall, worth it. Not rocket science!

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 22:00

Poor kids. Can't think of anything worse.

monkeyfacegrace · 19/09/2015 22:02

I've always just read/tv/eat/nap/colour/walk/look out of windows with my 3.

Have done long haul lots (yes, just for holidays shock horror), and it's always fine.

monkeyfacegrace · 19/09/2015 22:03

Poor kids?! Grin

Murfles · 19/09/2015 22:03

Poor kids. Can't think of anything worse.

I know, my children were terribly abused Confused

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 22:04

Yes. Poor kids. Fair enough when they understand but babies?

Murfles · 19/09/2015 22:05

monkey join me in the rank of shocking parent according to angel Grin

Murfles · 19/09/2015 22:06

angel so what you are effectively saying is babies shouldn't travel long haul?

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 22:11

Yes murfles unless emigrating or seeing relatives that can't travel to the UK. Why on earth would a baby need to travel long haul?

Murfles · 19/09/2015 22:16

You've changed your mind angel as you originally said
"Yes. Poor kids. Fair enough when they understand but babies?" It's none of your bloody business why people CHOOSE to fly with children under 5. You are derailing the thread as the OP asked for advice, NOT to be judged why she was flying.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/09/2015 22:16

angelos02 every Christmas for the past 13 years we have done Heathrow-Florida flights because PIL live there. Minimum 10 hours each way,

Just because you are obviously not comfortable with the idea of a long flight, please do not assume that that applies to the rest of us. My kids are great flyers and great travellers.

monkeyfacegrace · 19/09/2015 22:18

My babies wouldn't have had a bloody clue they were on a flight. It's no different than sitting on a coach from London to Glasgow. There, does that make you feel better about the poor babies

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 22:20

I've done long haul once in my life & precisely because of crying babies, I've never done it again.

Murfles · 19/09/2015 22:23

Ah, so it's the crying you can't stand then angel. I have a solution then, don't fly. Babies cry anywhere and everywhere, it's a fact of life. Hmm

angelos02 · 19/09/2015 22:26

I assume that this 'put up & shut up' attitude would apply if I blasted music for 10 hours while sat next to you on a flight?

Blackkat13 · 19/09/2015 22:28

Up to the age of 3,I used my DS car seat on the flight (britax eclipse) brings them up to height of the screen on the back of the seat, can be laid back when they have a sleep also they are strapped in so I was able to close my eyes without worrying that they might slip off the seat.

BabyGanoush · 19/09/2015 22:31

Brioche201, I did that withmy baby

WtF was I thinking drugging my baby anyway?!

He screamed for 6 hours, as I could not let him bounce off the walls, then slept 30 mins, then screamed more.

On the way back he slept

Step away from the pyriton etc.

Murfles · 19/09/2015 22:32

Babies crying on a flight is a completely different scenario than to someone blasting music. If you have nothing sensible to contribute to the OP then why are you on the thread? You appear to be goady given your input so far. I assume you are looking for an argument for some obscure reason.

BabyGanoush · 19/09/2015 22:33

I flew with him as DH and I had work that took us abroad, and we wanted to see family once a year.
