To take driving practical knowing I won't pass?

After passing my theory, in a euphoric state I very stupidly booked my practical test for next week (they'd had a cancellation)
I only did this because the next soonest available test at my nearest centre is the end of November.

I'm confident with my general driving but don't have a clue how to park. It gets worse, I'll have to do it in my car too

I had about 40 hours of lessons 6ish years ago and I got back in touch with my old instructor but he has a waiting list Hmm and no one else locally could fit me in for a lesson anytime soon.

Aibu in thinking that taking the test is pretty good prep for the actual test when I'm ready to pass? (Trying to justify wasting £60 here).
I'll know what to expect next time around and maybe it will help with nerves? Gah, what have I done?!

Better luck next time, OP.

I know cookie which is why I was surprised my insurance company said it will only be going up by £80 but now I'll have to pay an admin fee on top of thay when I eventually pass.

I've bought myself some shoes to cheer myself up.

Thanks shadow

My DS failed in August and rebooked immediately, the next available was the middle of October. He checked several times a day for cancellations, he got one and it was no problem changing the date. He even got an automatic refund of the original weekend surcharge. He passed second time.

Good luck to you both

Patapouf · 22/09/2015 18:37

Thanks raspberry, I've booked a double lesson with an instructor for next week and we'll see how long he thinks I need to get up to scratch.

Thanks raspberry

Iv booked for the 3rd November. But I will check to see if there is any cancellations after I get back my holiday on the 20th October for before then. May be hard trying to get one when instructor is available though.

Patapouf that's a good idea, I may go do some online holiday clothes shopping to cheer myself up.

Let me know how you get on next week. I'm going to go out next week too for one otherwise it would be four weeks without including my holiday time which I don't want to do and risk regressing.

Zara has some lovely shoes in at the moment, retail therapy is definitely a real thing. I'm booked in for the crack of dawn on Monday, hopefully I won't have flashbacks from the test Grin

I'm still feeling disappointed majorly today. Iv bought myself quite a bit of holiday clothes today and didn't cheer me up!

I text my di last night and he was at his other job, I'v got my test rebooked but it's six weeks away and at 2.47 so will be busy for schools getting out but that was all he could do. So holiday in 13 days for two weeks. Then home and test two weeks later. Just trying to decide whether I should have a lesson before I go or just wait till im back but then that will mean four weeks without, will I forget or regress in that time? Iv no idea.

Patapouf

Was it today you were having lessons with your new driving instructor?

If so, how did it go?

Patapouf · 02/10/2015 09:37

Hi!

I don't think you'd regress exasperated it's more a case of your confidence in all likelihood. A lesson beforehand will be enough to get you back in a test frame of mind.

First lesson was brilliant, although the DI spent most of it chatting Hmm
He told me to book a test. Soonest available is mid November. We went through the manoeuvres and it turns out I can parallel park Grin the fact that you don't actually have to park in between two cars takes the pressure off considerably.
DH is officially no longer allowed to drive here until he does his test and I'm missing me chauffeured already Wink

I've passed Grin Shock Grin

After 4 lessons with an instructor to work on confidence/manoeuvres I passed this afternoon with 4 minors.

I'd be happier if my change in license wasn't accompanied by a £400 hike in my insurance premium. Hmm

Did you pass exasperated?

Well done! And all the best drivers pass second time... ;-)

QforCucumber · 17/11/2015 19:42

Congratulations!
Definitely worth shopping around now for quotes too as the saving might be cheaper than the extra premium with your current insurer even with a cancellation charge!
