To think intelligent people shouldn't behave like this - who are the secret dirty devils at work?

I work in an office with mostly university level educated people yet I'm constantly surprised at the state of the kitchen area (just fridge, sink, microwave and coffee/tea making facilities). A few people seem unable to place their mug or tea spoons in the dishwasher and just dump them in the sink. Some seem to run water into the bowl for their dirty mug to sit in until, well I'm not sure, maybe until it magically washes itself.
Now to the toilets - there is keypad entry so only us lot can use them yet these clever people often drop bits of loo paper on the floor (seemingly clean little pieces), surely normal people would pick this up? What is wrong with people?

OP, I'm really stunned by your link between uni education, manners and cleanliness.

I'm astonished at the number of adult women who cannot flush a toilet.

I used to work for a well known international health company, all the staff were lovely, unfortunately to get from one side of the building to the other you had go through a corridor where the toilets were. Everyday someone stank the place out and left the toilet door open to share the smell! Grim does not begin to describe it.

In another place I worked there was "undercooked sting" to find out who was shifting in the yoghurt pots, eating an orange and the blocking the toilets by trying to flush it all! The person was caught, sacked and prosecuted for criminal damage!!

Nothing surprises me anymore!!

Undercooked sting
Shifting in yogurt pots Confused

The thing that cured employees at my last workplace of the habit of leaving dirty dishes all over the kitchen was the management instructing the cleaners to bin any dirty dishes left in the kitchen.

ShadowLine · 19/09/2015 00:03

Fizzie - what's this sting business about? I don't understand that paragraph.

TurnOffTheTv · 19/09/2015 00:06

Intelligence and common sense don't seem to go hand in hand. There have been hundreds of threads about it on here over the years.

TurnOffTheTv · 19/09/2015 00:07

And some people are just lazy fuckers regardless of intelligence.

yorkshapudding · 19/09/2015 00:10

Laziness and lack of consideration for others transcends all social, educational and intellectual barriers. No idea why anyone would think that being a "professional" or "educated" person would be a guarantee of cleanliness Hmm

HerrenaHarridan · 19/09/2015 00:24

Undercover?

Shifting has either got to be shitting in yoghurt pots or sneaking in.

What some people get up to in the toilet is baffling!

Has a dept manager or office manager sent round emails stating what is expected of the kitchen areas? If not suggest it to hr or appropriate manager if its putting you out.

I'm a contractor and work in many different offices and the rules vary very very greatly office to office. The last one during my first week I had a drink that left a heavy residue and said to the person that offered me a drink that I would go with them because I didnt want them to wash up my messy mug. This happened several times, oh it was fine the cleaners wash up blah blah

Yup 2 months later and I overhear same people bitching that sometimes I left my soup cup in the sink and got myself a new one for coffee. Ffs its not as if those bitching were left to clean themselves and they could have just said to me from the start what the unwritten rules were . Not one of them told me about the proper kitchen with the dishwasher around the corner and we should take them there. Mainly because there was no such policy. I figured about the breakout area rules on another floor due to listening to the warehouse staff bitching. They were also moaning about rules that a few had decided on. If it isn't in the cleaning company contact to deal with such things then it needs to be clearly communicated.

If one person always takes it upon themselves to deal with such things and doesnt say then everyone else will not notice and carry on.

As a contractor I always try to to work out the local culture but am still frequently left scratching my head. Asking the wrong person for pens, not knowing which external suplier to call for printer problems despite asking around and calling the internal IT dept and daring to go home at 7pm GUILTY

I've never worked anywhere with hideous toilets.

A long while ago a mate and I agreed to clean up a church hall every Sunday afternoon. It was a couple of quid in or back pocket.

It probably was used more frequently by women than men, and the women's loos were often in a frightful state...

... for the first few weeks. Now I maybe making this next bit up, but I think that, once the news had got around that a teenage boy was cleaning their loo, things got a lot better.

Intelligence has nothing to do with it. I have lived and worked with some very intelligent pigs Grin It's just individual standards isn't it, nothing to do with cleverness.
