To think that shouting out when football is on tv is just not on?

I come from a very un-sporty family....football and all that was never part of my life growing up.

Now DH and I are in his country and his Mother sits yelling at the football ....it's so aggressive sounding!

"RUBBISH! RUBBISH!" over and bloody over!

And more and worse. What's that all about then? I'm just not used to it!

Topseyt · 18/09/2015 15:14

I am just glad our house is detached when DH is in full footer-watching mode!!

Not detached by much, as we are in a normal, mixed residential street, but enough for him not to startle the neighbours when he really gets going. Grin

Is it OK to sing along to Songs of Praise?

howabout · 18/09/2015 15:26

thehypocrites you can shout at the triangle as much as you like as you will never be heard over dd's trumpet (unless she is on her regulation 16 bar rest) in which case the other dd's oboe will drown you out. Surely singing along at top volume at the Proms is compulsory?

Shouting over Poldark is just wrong Shock

Not looking forward to the rugby tonight.........

BumWad · 18/09/2015 15:46

YABU

Have you never watched the World Cup?

DontHaveAUsername · 18/09/2015 16:02

OP I think YABU. We all have things in our life that we are passionate about, and people who don't share our passion will wonder just why the hell we get so bothered about that passion, what's the point in it, it's just X

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2015 16:24

Usual - yorping is a perfect word for it!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2015 16:31

TheHouse - what is wrong with getting passionate about sport? And are you saying it is somehow superior to be passionate about music and theatre?

I get passionate about lots of things - books, music, theatre, TV, sport, politics - I don't want to limit my passions. But if someone has just one passion - well, it's great that they are passionate about something - surely that's better then not being passionate about anything?

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 18/09/2015 16:36

I yell at the rugby. Expect I will be yelling later when England are playing.

A bit of jumping round the room is always good too Grin

AnyoneButAndre · 18/09/2015 16:39

You should have heard what I yelled at that Paul Hollywood last week when I disagreed with his Technical Challenge choice. In a fortnight's time Len Goodman will be getting more abuse than any premiership referee.

One year I will go to Bayreuth to watch the Ring, and if it's a controversial staging I plan on joining in the traditional boos and jeers with the best of them.

thehypocritesoaf · 18/09/2015 16:50

What do you yell, people?

I would be pleased at 'shoot' 'shoot' or 'rubbish'.

Do other people slag off their own team as much as dh does?

ExitPursuedByABear · 18/09/2015 16:56

Kick On when watching the Eventing.......................

thehypocritesoaf · 18/09/2015 17:01

Ooh that sounds a bit nasty Smile

Crazypetlady · 18/09/2015 17:03

Yabu, wouldn't want to be in our welsh household when the rugby is on...or in Wales at all really when the rugby is on!

sproketmx · 18/09/2015 17:04

It's normal in this house, not just football either. Bet my neighbours dread speedway being on

thehypocritesoaf · 18/09/2015 17:07

What does one shout at speedway?

Floisme · 18/09/2015 17:09

I do it. I shout at The Today Programme too.

Theycallmemellowjello · 18/09/2015 17:22

Yeah, it would bother me. But it's your DH''s house as much as yours (I presume) so all you can do is ask nicely.

sproketmx · 18/09/2015 17:48

They shout when the one they're rooting fir isn't winning on speedway, or when one rider takes another out, or when someone they 'actively dislike' is winning

jonicomelately · 18/09/2015 17:50

Grin at actively dislike.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 18/09/2015 17:58

God, you wouldn't like my Dh. There is shouting, there is swearing. There is lots and lots of swearing. Sometimes pacing. Pacing whilst swearing. And shouting. I hate it but am used to it. (He will support Sheffield United.)

SenecaFalls · 18/09/2015 18:06

We are a pretty unshouty household, except during (American) college football season. Tomorrow night the University of Georgia (our team) plays one of its main rivals, the University of South Carolina. There will be lots of shouting, although not as much as when they play the University of Florida in October. That will be deafening.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 18/09/2015 18:13

Football mad house here, lots of shouting, swearing, jumping up to scream at the player to score and cheering to the rafters when they do.

Dh's Mother is the worst. Grin

gamerchick · 18/09/2015 18:16

Yeah it's normal, the husbands made me jump a few times.
