I never put my ds in front of the telly he tries to watch it when on our laps but I never sit him in front of it.I have cleaned the living room so it is dog hair free. I have a very long haired bearded collie/cross husky. AIBU to put him in the living room in front of in the night garden for half an hour(I will check on him obviously) while I clean my messy house and finish the chicken and mango curry? I would put him in the carrier but I would rather keep him away while I am hoovering the dog hair. I feel like a bit of a dick leaving him in front of the telly but I can't stand the mess!
AIBU?

I made a chicken and peach curry the other day for my DS.

The Pontipines are doggers according to DH - always have the binoculars out looking at Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle kissing.

londonrach · 17/09/2015 17:22

Seriously just put your dc in front of in the night garden and get on with what you need doing. My poor sister had to put her dd as a toddler in front of tv for three months due to morning sickness with dc2. Her dd is Very good at reading and loves drawing, painting, skipping , playing outside now etc. in fact is a very normal active child for her age now, did her no harm to have three months on front of the tv while her mum wasnt well. Never understood macca pacca though!

RabbitSaysWoof · 17/09/2015 17:31

That does sound nice. I used to do a chicken and apricot thing from AK when mine was small, he barely got a look in tho I loved it too much. What are you exactly putting in that slow cooker? with quantities please?

RabbitSaysWoof · 17/09/2015 17:32

Oh and yeah put the telly on.

SpaggyBollocks · 17/09/2015 17:59

rocker upsy daisy is such a slagbag. I mean, her bed follows her around!? I assume on the off-chance she needs a convenient place for a quickie.

Bellebella · 17/09/2015 18:06

He is 3 months old, he would be fine sitting there while you clean and cook dinner. Does not even need TV at that age.

Thought you was talking about a toddler, older child.

Crazypetlady · 17/09/2015 18:20

rabbitsayswoof I have put in so far
5 tins of tomatoes
1 tin of water
salt
about half a tbsp of paprika
2 tbsp curry powder
2tbsp garam masala
large sprinkling of ground corriander
large sprinkling of cumin and turmeric
1 mango diced
Half a jar of mango chutney sometimes just use extra mango
chicken breast
Assorted veg from my fridge/freezer(added hour before end)
usually add spices to taste throughout the time its cooking

I understand where you're coming from. My kids never watched tv as babies/tots either (as recommended) and so any screen time felt like a big thing when eventually they started watching little bits. Half an hour while cooking is fine.

monkeymamma · 18/09/2015 09:48

Londonrach I had to do the same. Ds1 spent months watching interminable itng episodes while I lay on the sofa groaning gently due to morning sickness with ds2. He is fine now and hardly ever wants to watch TV!

sproketmx · 18/09/2015 17:33

I don't like in the night garden personally. I think given what's come to light recently with all the bbc child sex scandals the last thing they should be showing is a kids programme where it shows a version of kids getting into the back or a vehicle and their trousers coming off EVERY FUCKING EPISODE!!!! I'm not a prude or precious and mine watch other cartoons I just don't think it's as innocent as it's made out to be when them tomliboos get into that ninkynonk or plinkyplonk or whatever it is and come out missing their breeks every flaming time.

littlefrenchonion · 18/09/2015 22:33

I pop my 4 month DD in the jumperoo and let her watch 'first dates' (she loves looking at the faces). When I was recovering from my c-section we snuggled up and watched seasons 1-5 of the Walking Dead Grin.

If you want to be educational, there's a great little baby sensory inspired channel on YouTube called 'Hey Bear'.

Don't worry!

callcentrecait · 18/09/2015 23:19

In the nicest possible way, this is the craziest OP I've ever seen. I'm clearly an atrocious mother as I sit DD in front of the TV every morning so I can have a nice cup of coffee in peace. I'd leave my baby to admire the trees while I vacuumed but only because it wouldn't occur to me to go to more effort. oh dear...

Crazypetlady · 18/09/2015 23:29

I don't think you are attrrocious at all. I Just worry. Not crazy either just had a very rough few days, my cat went in to the vets with a hurt paw and ended up being put down due to underlying liver disease.

Thanks everyone for reassuring me a bit!

Sorry had to reread your post OP, tired and a few pale ales later....

YABU, your dc will come to no harm watching ITNG, however if you take a leaf from the Pontypines and start feeding him runny grobbles you will deserve to have your arse kicked Wink

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 18/09/2015 23:40

Just saw your post about your pet, sorry that you're having a rough time. Be kind to yourself Flowers

WorzelsCornyBrows · 18/09/2015 23:42

If your DC want to watch ITNG cool, if they don't, also cool.

Those Wottingers are a dodgy bunch. I think maybe their house is a second home so they're not there much. I used to get excited at a Wottingers episode too, very depressing.

I only noticed the other day watching a show about the 90s that the Wottingers/Pontipines house is basically a replica of the Big Breakfast house.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 18/09/2015 23:44

Please post receipe for Chicken & Mango curry.
Sounds lovely!

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 18/09/2015 23:46

Sorry, didn't see page 2! How long do you leave it in the slow cooker?

TamaraLamara · 18/09/2015 23:46

I just don't think it's as innocent as it's made out to be when them tomliboos get into that ninkynonk or plinkyplonk or whatever it is and come out missing their breeks every flaming time

Not to mention the giant tit stuck on the front of the pinky ponk Wink

SaucyJack · 18/09/2015 23:49

Iggle Piggle has saved our lives.

I will fist fight with anyone who doesn't understand the appeal of the funny blue man.

ouryve · 18/09/2015 23:50

If it makes anyone feel better, I used to plonk DS1 in his swing in front of Ready Steady Cook or Nigella's Kitchen at 3 months. It was the only way I got to poo in peace and he was always asleep and no longer bouncing all over the place by the time I was relieved!

ouryve · 18/09/2015 23:51

And FTR, in the absence of Igglepiggle, 11 years+ ago, we had to make do with Ainsley Harriet.

IsabelleEberhardt · 18/09/2015 23:53

Someone has to say this...

That kind of fruit in food is wrong. Chicken and mango curry.... Bleurgh. And how many tins of tomatoes?

SaucyJack · 18/09/2015 23:53

We had Teletubbies then Yve.

Not that Ainsley isn't worthy of anyone's time.
