To be irritated by son's school sign, which is incorrectly spelled?

My ds has just started in Reception at our lovely local school.

However, it is annoying me on a daily basis that the big signs at the school have spelled the name wrong. To save outing myself, I have changed the school name to Mumsnet...

Mumsnet Infant School

Since buying the uniform, PE bag, and getting the book bag, I have realised it is actually:

Mumsnet Infants School

I know it's only an s, but it's bugging me! I must admit to being a pedant regarding spelling and grammar (awaits posters telling me there are errors all over my post) but this is a school and they are big, professionally made signs Confused

AIBU to want to mention it to a teacher, and suggest a fundraiser to replace them?!

midnite, you just reminded me of this:

To be irritated by son's school sign, which is incorrectly spelled?

Overthinking it maybe - but 'Junior' and 'Senior' in those contexts refer to the level of the school, not the population of the students. It's a slight difference but an important one in grammatical terms.

Given that, Squeegie, you'd be right to say it is 'Infant School', but only if people were comfortable with the idea the school is 'infant level' as opposed to junior level or senior level.

Confusing myself now! [off to get lots of tea]

CrazyBoo - absolutely right. That's what I was going to say!

overthemill · 17/09/2015 15:58

Of course it's the level - infants are babies aren't they? But in fact most schools are now Primary and Secondary or Lower , Middle or Upper/ High.

SlinkyB · 17/09/2015 19:13

Ah, finally some nice people who want to chat about whether it should be Infant, Infants, or Infants'!

Oh, definitely not a case of someone nicking the 's', there are a couple of signs around the grounds and they both say Infant.

To be honest, I'm kinda past caring now, just wish the school were consistent in their spelling.

You should see how they've registered with ofsted or DfE for the definitive.

SlinkyB · 17/09/2015 20:31

The Ofsted Report done last year says Infants', but the one from 2000 says Infant.

I give up! Grin

But you talk about a toddler group, not a toddlers group or a toddlers' group? I reckon infant is correct.

0hCrepe · 17/09/2015 22:00

If you substituted 'infant' with 'child' you'd end up with Mumsnet Children's School, so surely when you change it back the equivalent would be Mumsnet Infants' School?
It is a school for the infants in the area of mumsnet, so in a sense their school.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 17/09/2015 22:23

My vote is for infant.

It is infant-age schooling.
Followed by juniors.
Then seniors.

Anybody up for sixths forms college?

We don't have a mumsnet primaries/primary's/primarys school, do we?
