To have written the correct spelling

Where DD's teacher had written her spelling error as category???
DD (13) had written catagory and the teacher had put catergory x 3 in green pen and made DD write it out incorrectly.

I've written sp category in purple felt pen.
I don't think that's unreasonable Grin

Arghhh. Autocorrect.

The teacher didn't spell it correctly, she put catergory.

I reckon it's a plot to prevent the masses from rioting. Wasting our time correcting school spelling and grammar.

Pigeonpost · 15/09/2015 16:19

Nope, YANBU. Brave but not U...

Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:20

Drives me nuts when teachers get spelling wrong.

I did think it was a bit OTT.....purple pen in the media studies book. Oh well, I'm taking after my MIL.

CATEGORY. If teachers cant spell they should not be teaching our kids.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 15/09/2015 16:25

Theres a good one doing the rounds on The Poke. The child had written 'I had slain the dragon.' The teacher changed it to slained
Brave thing to do op, brave.

SenecaFalls · 15/09/2015 16:26

I'm assuming that the teacher is a non-rhotic speaker. A rhotic speaker would know there is no "r". Smile

Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:26

It's gets better.....just asked DD who the media studies teacher was who wrote it.....it's the deputy head of the whole school !!!

A friend of mine red-pen corrected a letter sent out from the foundation unit at school. He was called in and bollocked for upsetting the staff!

Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:30

And the teacher teaches English !

OP posts:
Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:31

He is actually a really nice guy.....I might find some tipex Grin

hackmum · 15/09/2015 16:32

That's really depressing.

I think all the good teachers are leaving the profession in droves so the only ones you've got left are a mix of the highly committed and the utterly useless.

AnnPerkins · 15/09/2015 16:44

YANBU

I wouldn't correct a letter to parents or anything like that but I'm not going to do nothing when I know my child has been given the wrong spelling.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 15/09/2015 16:47

Verbena - it's "tippex" or "Tipp-Ex".

CultureSucksDownWords · 15/09/2015 16:47

Blimey. I might have left it had it been in a different subject book, but English/Media?! There's very little excuse for not being able to spell properly if you're a secondary school English/Media teacher.

Bloodonthedanceflower · 15/09/2015 16:50

I don't understand why some posters are saying the OP is 'brave'? It implies there is something to be afraid of but I don't get what this is?

I'm not being goady, genuinely curious.

OP, I think it's the right thing to do.

Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:52

Leftmyriding rop Grin PMSL.

Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:53

I even crossed off his 'r' in the three places she had spelt it wrong and where he had 'corrected' it. She has only just joined year 9.....start as I mean to go.

Sodder · 15/09/2015 16:53

YANBU. Don't tippex it out. Mistakes like that make my piss boil.

tbtc20 · 15/09/2015 16:54

Blood

It's a bit of a cheap shot to just write in the school book. More mature would be to include a little note with the book that the teacher would see when it's returned.

If my mistakes are pointed out to me in a mature way I am more likely to apologise and make amends. If I am humiliated I feel defensive.

Moodyblue1 · 15/09/2015 16:55

I normally would let it go but it's unfair when they are correcting your child's spelling and having them write it out wrong so think I would have to say something.

My DS has started high school and there's a TA in the class supporting him as he really struggles with handwriting and spelling due to dyspraxia and it's annoying me that 3 times this week she has made spelling mistakes when filling in his homework diary for him, seems slightly ironic that the person supporting his spelling also can't spell.

ItchyArmpit · 15/09/2015 16:56

Maybe the teacher up till 1 am marking on a school night? (flipping hope so if the Eng teacher is making that mistake!)

Bloodonthedanceflower I think quite a few parents still think of school the same way they did when they were children - so some come in spoiling for a fight, some are a bit scared of teachers, some desperately want praise for the amount of time they've put into doing their kids' homework, some never turn up, etc. etc. (and yes, lots are lovely)

ItchyArmpit · 15/09/2015 16:56

*was up till 1 am

Verbena37 · 15/09/2015 16:57

Oops. Me thinks tbtc20 might be a teacher Blush.....off to find correction fluid I go. Tbh, if DD saw it, which she definitely will, she will never speak to me again. I did on impulse though.....nobody would do nothing if he had marked her maths and said 5+5=9. Parents would be fuming.
