To not go into work tomorrow because I will be tired?

I think I have lost all perspective! I am 36 wks pregnant. I have 5 days left at work spread out over 2 weeks due to annual leave I have spread out.

I CANNOT sleep. I have horrible restless legs and am still awake!!

Due to be up at 6:30 to send children off to breakfast club and then drive the hour to work. Even if I went to sleep right now I would have 4 hours and really struggle with the drive tomorrow.

Due to my job I am mega busy these last 4 days handing over all of my work smoothly, so after a full on day tomorrow the drive back would be even worse.

Shall I suck it up and go or phone in sick? I honestly have no idea.

Can you swap one of your annual leave days to tomorrow? That means you'd have to go in another day, but might give you a bit of breathing room with getting your work cleared?

OddSocksHighHeels · 14/09/2015 02:42

Well if you really can't cope then obviously call in sick but don't they force you onto mat leave if you go sick for pregnancy related reasons after a certain point?

I may be slightly wrong on that btw so don't want to state it as fact!

OddSocksHighHeels · 14/09/2015 02:43

Or do what turquoise said. That's better advice.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 14/09/2015 02:45

Or are there any aspects of your job that you can do or hand over from home?

Tootsiepops · 14/09/2015 02:46

I struggle with lack of sleep and I'm only 30 weeks pregnant.

When I'm utterly exhausted, the deal I make with myself is that I'll go in, but if I'm struggling then I come home again. More often than not I manage to get through the day without too many problems.

The days I am due in I have appointments booked. If I was off sick half of them would still need to go ahead without me but half could wait. It is an option though definately

Yes they can force you to start maternity leave if you take too many sick days at this stage.

BikeRunSki · 14/09/2015 07:04

If you don't go in today, won't that just make your workload worse another day?

DragonMamma · 14/09/2015 07:07

I think you just have to suck it up. You don't want them starting your maternity leave early and I'm sure you'll be fine once you get there and stuck in.

You have my sympathies though OP, I only got about 4hrs last night, thanks to afternoon wine which always always keeps me awake in the evening.

c4kedout · 14/09/2015 07:09

just a few days left. I would try to go in and get over and done with it. or start mat leave earlier if you cannot cope anymore.

CJCreggsmyhero · 14/09/2015 07:19

Is there a possibility the person you are handing over to, could come to your house for a few hours or you could meet half way? Perhaps even a short day and get home for a nap?

dolcelatteLover · 14/09/2015 07:24

They can only start maternity leave if your illnee is pregnancy related. Migraine is a good day one for odd sick days.

manicinsomniac · 14/09/2015 07:26

I'd just suck it up and go in to be honest.

I have had sporadic insomnia my whole life, whether pregnant or not, and sometimes the only way to break a cycle of 3-4am nights is to stay up the whole night so I'm tired enough for a full night's sleep the next. I still have to go to work. It annoys me when people call in sick because they didn't sleep. It's one of those things you need to learn to live with.
