To think some people are going to regret some of these ridiculous tattoos.

What is it with tattoos lately. They're just getting ridiculous and some of them look plain stupid. Rita Ora has some just under her armpits, the part of the arm that gets dangly as you age. Just what is the point, they don't look good at all. I don't think they define you as a person (as lots of them say) at all. How does it. Confused

Because I think they look ridiculous. When I look at someone like that (Lou for example)... I think 'but you are a lovely looking woman, with a nice figure etc, you are clearly articulate and smart... And you've ruined yourself.'

I have four tattoos (I don't have to regret them particularly, as they are small and easily covered by normal clothes.) no one would ever know I had them, if they were visible I would certainly regret them.

It's just my opinion. I have two friends who have sleeves, and my brother has most of us forearm covers by a ridiculous dragon. I just think... Why??

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/09/2015 18:05

Lilac - PGCE's are oversubscribed. Good schools (in my area) have vacancies like good dust... Given two identical CV's, would the person with or without the visable neck tattoo succeed?? I think you know the answer.

FindoGask · 14/09/2015 18:07

DriverSurpriseMe - is that Kelly Violet? Gorgeous - I love her work. Is it on you?

Murfles · 14/09/2015 18:09

I just think... Why

Because the people that have tattoos like them? Confused.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/09/2015 18:09

And some people don't.

munkisocks · 14/09/2015 18:10

Rita oras looks like armpit hair tbh lol

LilacSpunkMonkey · 14/09/2015 18:11

Teacher's aren't employed from CV's. They apply for jobs, go for interviews, spend the day in the school, work with the children. That is how they are assessed.

How do you think the Assistant Head at my school got his job, what with his MASSIVE tat?

Why not just own the fact that you don't like tats, rather than dressing it up as 'they make people unemployable', when people on this thread have consistently proved you wrong?

Having tats doesn't 'ruin' someone's appearance. They just look different.

riverwalk · 14/09/2015 18:11

I don't know anyone who would pay for a tat before putting food on the table. Maybe you need to stop mixing with lowlife scumbags and get some decent friends?
What makes you think these are friends? they're people I come across in my work. Making assumptions and judging me are we, or perhaps getting sneery about lowlife scumbags?

And some people don't

And? So what? Why not keep it to yourself? Do you tell people on the street you don't like them? Or do you realise that you saying that would be quite rude?

FindoGask · 14/09/2015 18:14

I am absolutely covered in tattoos - I think I'm notching up nearly 100 hours under the needle - and have an upstanding citizen-type job (customer facing, corporate environment) that I love. I dress appropriately for work just like anyone else so all my tattoos are hidden - even if I had a chest piece it would be easily covered by a shirt, which is what I mostly wear for work.

Bit tired of this "people with tattoos are all lazy shiftless dole scum" stuff. People with tattoos are just people who like tattoos. That's really the only generalisation you can safely about us as a demographic.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 14/09/2015 18:14

Why wouldn't I get sneery about lowlife scumbags?

What a weird thing to say.

FindoGask · 14/09/2015 18:14

you can safely make about us, that should say

DriverSurpriseMe · 14/09/2015 18:17

DriverSurpriseMe - is that Kelly Violet? Gorgeous - I love her work. Is it on you?

It is! And no, but I really want to get a booking with her next year, her work is just gorgeous.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/09/2015 18:21

Lilac, I have no idea why you're taking a strangers opinion so personally. I don't feel I've been 'consistently proved wrong'... How I feel is how I feel. I think visable huge tattoos look ridiculous, it doesn't affect your life. Be confident in your choices Wink

riverwalk · 14/09/2015 18:25

Lilac so you get sneery about people you perceive to be lowlifescum. Do you realise how horrible that sounds. Much more sneery than you're making me out to be.

And some people don't

Do you tell people on the street you don't like them? Or do you realise that you saying that would be quite rude?
No I wouldn't consider it rude if someone was going to get one done but couldn't afford to buy food. I'd call it moral guidance and common sense. Why on earth is it rude. You don't have a problem with being rude do you.

DriverSurpriseMe - good luck! she's got a really unique style I think - it's that combination of the bold black with how delicate her linework is.

Flumplet · 14/09/2015 18:39

OP have you not seen tattoo fixers?? I'm tempted to get an embarrassing tattoo right by the fanjo just so Jay can make it in to something beautiful!

Sallystyle · 14/09/2015 18:40

Ive seen loads of student nurses with visible and big tattoos.

It really isn't a big deal anymore like it used to be. I can't cover mine when I'm at work and no one cares.

Most of us also don't get them to look edgy or different. I know it is not edgy or different to get them, I never got them for that reason. I got them because I like them and would love to eventually have a full sleeve.

And I know my NHS trust won't care and it won't stop me getting a place at uni.

Moln · 14/09/2015 18:59

Bit of a tangent here but anyone I know/have heard of who had a 'stupid' tattoo got it when drunk.

Is it actually legal to tattoo a drunk person?

Or is it more the case that a decent tatto artist wouldn't?

spankhurst · 14/09/2015 19:00

I've no particular beef with tats, although I've noticed that black ones all fade to a nondescript navy-ish colour over time. I don't think anyone's beauty is ever enhanced by a tattoo, but that's just my opinion - some people find them very sexy.

FindoGask · 14/09/2015 19:02

Both of those things, Moin. All licensed tattoo studios have signs saying they won't tattoo people who are under the influence of drink or alcohol. People who got tattooed when drunk either got tattooed in someone's kitchen, or in Magaluf, or if somewhere with a licence then presumably a place that doesn't get much custom. It wouldn't be worth a decent artist's licence to tattoo a drunk person, plus they don't sit still, stink of booze, and bleed a lot (due to alcohol thinning the blood).

FindoGask · 14/09/2015 19:04

spankhurst I actually love well lived-in tattoos! There are several instagram pages devoted to them. Some hold up surprisingly well after 30 or 40 years, but inevitably there's fading and blurring.

But yes, everyone's different.

Lookingforwardtoholiday · 14/09/2015 19:09

I think that without exception they look hideous but that's my opinion and therefore I don't have any. However, I couldn't care less if other people do although I do have to wonder why people have them on their face?

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 14/09/2015 19:12

I find my tattoos are talking points. I've had people come up to me and ask me where one in particular was done because it's so unusual and even had people tap me on the shoulder in shop queues and say they usually hate tattoos but love this one.

If you get a good one by a good artist then people Imo find it hard not to appreciate and admire it.
