About DS recovery from burst appendix

Last Tuesday DS 1 (age 8) had emergency surgery to remove his appendix which they found had burst once they got in to look at it.
He has obviously been in a lot of pain and came out of hospital on the day afternoon.
The surgeon told us to keep him off school for 4 weeks and physical activity for 6 as it was a particularly nasty appendix, worst he has seen for ages.
He's on 2 lots of antibiotics and although a lot better today and can walk (although slightly hunched over) and is only occasionally in strong pain if he moves too quickly. But otherwise he is well and chatty and eating well.

Me and DH have been clashing over whether he should be doing things
For example
We were supposed to be going to cinema today and DH reckoned he was fine to go, DS is booked into a coding class at the library on Wednesday evening 2 hours which DH is refusing to cancel as says he fine to go,
I on the other hand think if he is fine to sit in a library then there's not much difference between that and sitting in school for a few hours and so the surgeon wouldn't have said keep him off for so long

Who is being unreasonable? Should I be letting go out and about like that or am I right that he should be co ole telly resting even if he feels OK?

I had to stay in hospital for five days after having my appendix out 30 years ago (as everybody did then). I was fine after that (could walk etc although it hurt a bit) but it could be different if the appendix has burst. I think he should rest for at least two weeks and then see how he is. Perhaps visit your GP for an opinion.

I'd keep him home and resting for at least two weeks before very gently starting to do any activities, however sedentary. A friends daughter recently had a ruptured appendix and although like your ds her initial operation went well she then picked up an infection and was very ill indeed, including a short while in intensive care. It was a very scary time for her family and she lost almost six months of school in the end, although is totally OK now.

Your ds may get a little bored staying home for a while but it's not a trivial operation and his body will be fighting off infection right now so all his strength should be used for that.

Your dh is being a dick.

Poor love. If your son does nothing for 4 weeks he will go up the wall. I think you need to take each day as it comes. I don't think that going to a 2 hour coding class is a bad thing provided a parent is allowed to stay with him.

School is different. It's more hectic and a longer day. A library has fewer children than a school and he won't be rushing about in the play ground.

My DC had a complicated ruptured appendix and was in hospital for two weeks, and off school for a further two. He was much sicker than yours from the sound of it, but you should be doing whatever the drs told you to.
