A dog ran into my house and the owner blamed ME

I was getting toddler dd into the car this morning. The car was on my driveway.

A small dog suddenly ran onto the driveway and jumped into the boot. Then, the little blighter went charging off up the driveway and into the house. The door was wide open as we have builders in.

The owner strolled up as the dog was jumping out of the boot. "Oh for GOODNESS SAKE, you've got your DOOR open!" she exclaimed. I was quite taken aback.

I said something like "Er yes, could you call him back please? My cats will be very unhappy at him being in their space."

At this point she did an eye roll and said that obviously if there were CATS there, he'd come out more quickly WOULDN'T he?! One of the builders then came out carrying said small dog (cat sized, yappy type dog, no idea of breed) and handed him to the woman, who harumphed and walked off.

Am I being unreasonable to be a bit Hmm? I don't mind dogs (medium sized ones), but my cats are sensitive souls who are already having to put up with building work. I don't want them being upset by a random dog galloping into the kitchen.

This has happened before, but last time the door was closed so the dog just got into the car. It's never on a lead.

I would be thrilled if a dog ran into my house! My stepdad has befriended all the local dogs (and has talked to more neighbours in three years than my mum has in thirty!) and has been known to invite lost ones in until their owner can be called.

However, I would be mortified if my dog did that! However friendly and lovely it is, some people just don't like dogs, some are allergic, some have other pets who could hurt or be hurt, some just don't want a four legged idiot galloping through their home! My dog is always on a lead ever since he got scared by a marching band as a puppy and did a runner (kind lady was holding him when I caught up to him, I thanksd her profusely). And he can be dog reactive. Strolling along my mums quiet street on a long lead, he suddenly bolted across the road after a cat even though he's lived with cats all his life and never shown the slightest interest in chasing random cats before or since!

Woman is crazy. I think you need to keep the dog if it does it again, for its own sake.

My dog is aggressive to some dogs and if that dog ran into my house there is a chance it would be attacked. The lady would then shout at me despite her not having control of her dog. I have lost count of how many dogs have ran up to my dog off the lead despite mine being on and me shouting as soon as I saw them to the owners. One man let his dogs of saw them circle and snap at my dog and lunge at him and when I asked him to move them he turned his back. Can't deal with the ignorance.

I've chatted to the builders more about it today, as I was out all day yesterday. Apparently the yappy little thing ran round and round the kitchen island, knocked over a box of screws and tried to run up the stairs. Luckily they grabbed him before he got his paws on my new carpets.

I am less bemused and more cross now (although dh thinks I'm giving it too much thought). I'm considering being out by the car at the time she normally passes tomorrow, so that I can start an argument. I know this is childish, but my piddle has been boiled.

It always amazes me how many dog owners are so precious.

A while ago I was walking into town. I received a text message and I knew it was fairly urgent so stood on the pavement and replied to it. I was vaguely aware of a dog barking but took no notice as the text was more important. The next thing I knew was an irate woman asking me to move as I was standing outside her house and it was making her dog bark! She had a reasonable sized front garden and I wasn't even near her wall. The dog was on a sofa or whatever in the front room. I suggested she kept her dog in the back of the house if it couldn't cope with someone standing on the pavement but apparently it liked looking out of the front window to see what was going on Hmm

That behaviour isn't just reserved for dog owners, that's loony self entitlement in general. If my dog was barking at someone outside my house I'd tell him to shut up!

I'd be mortified if my dog actually ran into someone else's house.

You need to have a few ready responses ready to throw her way the next time this happens.

You need to have a bucket of water ready to throw her way the next time this happens
