Work printer drama

Iliketoparrty · 09/09/2015 15:41

So we have a big ass printer at work, its huge. It takes about 10 reams of paper at a time and is used by about 50 folk.

Occasionally when you go to use it, it needs filling with paper. Doing this isn't difficult.

There is someone in my team A who is disabled so she can't lift stuff or bend down. A went to use the printer and it was empty. Another person also wanted to use it B who is on a different team on our floor. I sit near the printer so I heard her ask him to put in some paper as she physically can't.

B said no I'm too busy. I just want my printing. A said its in the printer queue so A's stuff needs to be printed first. B says just hurry up pointing to the paper boxes.

As I had overheard I got up to put in some paper in the printer saying to B that A can't fill the printer, it only takes a minute. After it was filled A got her stuff as did B.

B has now threatened to complained to his manager unless A apologies for asking for help B is more senior than A although not me so A is worried about getting in trouble if she doesn't. I've told A that I'll deal with it. Aibu to tell him to ODFOD and go to him manager thenHmm

B is a selfish twit and I can't see what he or she has to complain about!

paulapompom · 09/09/2015 15:45

YaNbu. B is bu, and disabilist, and a twat imo. I take it B does know that A has some difficulties? Even so, rudeand hhorrible behaviour.

Charis1 · 09/09/2015 15:45

why is this in AIBU? There isn't any question here.

squoosh · 09/09/2015 15:46

B sounds like a knobcheese of the highest order. I'd love to hear their complaint.

'I was at the printer being my usual pricky self, you know being generally obnoxious and refusing to offer assistance to someone who required it. I feel so victimised!'

PausingFlatly · 09/09/2015 15:47

That's bonkers!

Yes, you have to go his manager now because he's threatened to.

Hole of his own digging, etc.

MaxPepsi · 09/09/2015 15:48

B is an arse.

We have a huge printer at work that prints architect type designs.

It is a bastard to reload with paper at the best of times. Today I have returned to work after an illness and I'm not physically back to full strength.

I asked one of the owner/directors to refill it for me as I couldn't do it, suppose I'll have to apologise for it!

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 15:50

Charis although lacking a question mark, the last sentence was a question. Plus AIBU is full of people just having a moan so not sure why you've singled out this post.

Go to his manager.

AlisonWunderland · 09/09/2015 15:53

I'd say that B is a total C

Charis1 · 09/09/2015 15:54

because there is absolutly no question of the op being unreasonable, and they surely know that, so why is it here?

Fluffyears · 09/09/2015 15:59

B should be made to apologise. I'd go to his manager before he does and state the facts.

howabout · 09/09/2015 15:59

YANBU
What sort of backward place do you work where the only slightly more senior bods get to demand apologies with menaces from indirect subordinates. Shock
Think I might be tempted to complain to B's manager / HR about his attitude tbh.

AlisonWunderland · 09/09/2015 16:00

Can anyone self appoint to the forum police? Or is there an interview process?

squoosh · 09/09/2015 16:02

It's a self-appointed position.

Channel your huffiest inner Kim Jong-un and away you go.

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 16:06

Despite it being obvious to you, Charis, some people are unsure. For example, there is the option of the OP having it out with B and just saying "She's disabled, you twat!" rather than going to his manager.

There's also another poster on here asking if it would be U to ask her neighbour for some empty boxes, so everyone needs some reassurance, I guess.

OP, just out of curiousity, has B made any mention of knowing A is disabled? Has anyone (to your knowledge) mentioned it to him?

Iliketoparrty · 09/09/2015 16:07

Sorry the question was a bit garbled - should I go directly to his manager rather to wait until B complains?

While the nature of A's disability isn't widely known but A uses a walking stick.

OP posts:
TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 16:08

Oh! No, go first, he does need a confrontation about his attitude, and if you wait you'll look reactionary and defensive, IMO.

wasonthelist · 09/09/2015 16:08

Channel your huffiest inner Kim Jong-un

How you bastards get access to internet it banned!

Iliketoparrty · 09/09/2015 16:09

I don't know what as led to her disability if that makes sense but A did say she could physically do the task.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 09/09/2015 16:14

I would complain to Bs manager.

SoupDragon · 09/09/2015 16:15

Charis why don't you go sort out the rest of AIBU?
About 98% of it is not an AIBU at all. It should keep you busy.

Iliketoparrty · 09/09/2015 16:19

Shit couldn't physically do the task. Sorry

OP posts:
squoosh · 09/09/2015 16:19

Iliketoparrty I'd have a word with his manager rather than wait for him to complain. He sounds like an unpleasant character.

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 16:20

Then why did she ask for help (not that there's anything wrong with asking for help, in a normal rational workplace)?

BeeRayKay · 09/09/2015 16:25

What's wrong with people?
Surely if someone asked you to fill the printer for any reason if you're not busy you do it? (Providing it's asked politely) I can't imagine saying "no you do it" unless the person asking was a cunt and lazy to boot.

People make me wonder.

In relation to you: YNBU, and yes you need to pre-emptively strike.

jay55 · 09/09/2015 16:27

Off the record chat if you're friendly with their manager.
The real twat is the one who left the printer empty.
