AIBU?

AIBU to judge total strangers on the state of their carpets?

I suspect I'm being utterly unreasonable. Yet I won't ever stop still do it.

If someone posts something on a Facebook selling page, it could be a solid block of gold for a fiver, it could be an actual naked Tom Hardy, or lovely bottles of wine for free - if it photographed ontop of an unvaccuumed carpet I judge you. I also wonder what the state of the rest of the house is and wonder when they last hoovered. I look at the bits and try and guess. Hairs are the worst.

It's akin to washing an unwashed item of clothing.

This is AIBU so I'm fully expecting a flaming it's been sometime but I refuse to change my mind.

So in theory, it should have been a statement in Chat.

But I'd get in trouble with the tower surely?

They left me the receipts/invoiced for everything they'd had done to the house. The carpets are their work (except for the top floor - they obviously didn't get as far as decorating up there).

Anklebiter .As part of my work I used to visit lots of homes like you describe. You soon learn to perch on the edge of a chair and refuse all offers of a drink but despite all that I met some very nice friendly people.

sandgrown I don't doubt that there are nice people living in that manner (I also have done perching on sofa whilst trying to breathe through my ears in the line of work)..I just didn't want to take anything home with me inanimate or otherwise Grin

Someone on my local page was selling a filthy baby walker caked in food and wanted ??35 for it, the carpet was filthy covered in fag butts, food and beer cans!

Well you're entitled to judge people on any criterion you like. But I'm judging you from your OP and you seem pretty shallow.

Yanbu.
I judge.
I never understand why people put 'just needs a good clean'. Why not clean it before listing it then?????

Mind you we have no floors at all at the moment. Our house has been concreted and needs 6 weeks to dry out. If I sell anything people will assume I live in a public car park or something

YANBU. It's when I look at eBay or Etsy photos and see someone naked in the reflection. Blush

Yanbu. I dislike dirty carpets immensely. I'm not that fond of clean ones - I can't help but think they're one day away from being a CSI crime scene.

I once visited an old friend who I hadn't seen in years, with my 8 week old DS. I had been invited to have dinner and stay the night. The carpets couldn't have been cleaned in months. I wasn't too precious with DS, and normally would happily have put him down on a blanket on the carpet. But not there. I smiled nicely at friend, perched on the edge of the sofa and prayed that the kitchen was cleaner. It wasn't.

I can't imagine why people don't see their own dirty carpets. A massive blind spot?

Well, lucky you if you get a feeling of superiority/happiness by looking at other people's carpets on e-bay. It's cheap and harms nobody, so yanbu

Some people are just easily pleased Grin I guess

enjoy it

YANBU. I once visited SIL's house for the first time and the carpets were literally crawling with all the debris that builds up but had never been hovered. Crumbs were the least of it. I was sickened. To make it worse, PIL had paid for their house to be entirely redecorated, including new carpets from John Lewis, less than a year earlier. I honestly wonder if it had ever been hovered since then. I ate a snack out of politeness and the thought of it now makes me want to throw up. I haven't been back since, always make excuses. SIL and BIL are young and healthy are certainly capable of cleaning up after themselves.

They have since had their house entirely redecorated by a company that does this again...less than 5 years after the first time, as apparently it "really needed done as it was old fashioned".
