Sorry posting for traffic I'm in a right state. Got the docs this afternoon, I've booked a 20 min slot because I really need therapy and the right meds to help me manage my ptsd. How can I approach this without being tearful so the doc will listen and not dismiss me? Got my diagnosis 2 years ago, had edmr for 1 year, I then moved house and since moving I've had no support just been sort of waved away despite pretty awful but factual discharge letter from clin psych who did edmr. Don't even know this doc as never seen same one twice at this surgery so don't know how much they know about ptsd. My symptoms have been terrible lately and I'm really struggling.

In my experience, Sham, being tearful actually makes them take you more seriously! So I wouldn't worry about that - cry if you need to.

Good luck xx

Cry if you need to, but bear in mind that if you spend the whole appointment crying it's almost impossible to make an assessment and you might need to come back another time. Maybe write everything down so you can show that to the GP at the start?

Next time you make an appt, ask to see a doctor who knows about PTSD/stress in general.
You may have to wait a couple of extra days, but it is worth it.
If the new doctor isn't up to speed, ask them to refer you to somebody who can be more use.
Don't be afraid to cry, it would be less 'weird' if you cry when you are upset.
If somebody came up to me saying they were really upset, but they were all smiles, I would question the upset!
Write down your feelings
Write down what has helped in the past
Write down what you would like the doctor to do
That way, things don't get missed.
