Ds is soon to be 8 and wants a spy set thing. He does play with his police station and helicopter but maybe he is getting a bit old for it as a present.

If he wants it why ever not?

my son isn't showing any signs of growing out of it, he is 9 now (i had the same concerns last christmas).
It is his go to quite toy.

no it is his go to quiet toy

MrsEvadneCake · 07/09/2015 22:13

My DS had the spy set at age 10 and still played with it. I think it's worth it

KurriKurri · 07/09/2015 22:19

Mine (DS and DD) both played with playmobil till quite a bit older than 8.

PurpleDaisies · 07/09/2015 22:21

I like play Mobil and I'm a lot older than your son.

If you think he'll like it, but it.

PurpleDaisies · 07/09/2015 22:21

Buy not but it!

SavoyCabbage · 07/09/2015 22:22

My dd got a massive dolls house for her ninth birthday.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 07/09/2015 22:42

I know someone who had some for her 13th birthday. It was a set she'd always wanted and was delighted to receive it. Wasn't at all bothered by telling all her friends either.

Please buy it for your son if he wants it. Eight is still quite little really.

FloppyRagdoll · 08/09/2015 06:49

My colleague gave me a Playmobil Martin Luther figure for my 53rd birthday. I was delighted. (It was the fastest-selling Playmobil figure ever - 34 000 sold in 72 hours; I imagine most of them were bought for adults.)

The same colleague's 13-year-old daughter still plays with Playmobil - she does have two younger brothers, aged 11 and 9; but she also does some clever stuff on her own, making photomontages out of combinations of Playmobil figures and real life settings.

My DS just got some extra bits of superhero imaginext for his 9th birthday at his request. He wanted it and plays with imaginext daily with no signs of growing out of it so why not? His will also be passed down to 4 year old brother.

Arf at Luther figure Grin

Go for it! 8 yrs is nothing! And it's good that children can be children for as long as they want.

I'd go as far to say that dc can sometimes get more out of Playmobil when they are older because when they are more autonomous/dexterous.

The Playmobil of my dd (12 yrs) , largely horse and stable related, gets ignored for months on end and then, say, in the holidays, she will play with it every day for hours and hours at a time building incredibly detailed dressage arenas and riding centres, with cafés and gyms attached etc and she'll make custom-made structures to go with it out of shoe-boxes and corrugated cardboard - it looks really professional. She made a tack room this summer and using brass split pins as saddle trees. I was quite Envy Grin

FloppyRagdoll · 08/09/2015 07:23

Your dd should get together with my colleague's dd, standclear. They sound like kindred spirits.

When anyone comes into my office, often the first thing they do is pick up my Martin Luther - check that his hat comes off, fiddle with the quill and the Bible. They talk about the Playmobil sets they had as kids (or, depending on age, bought for their own children). He's a great icebreaker.

I have a set of Romans for me and my old GCSE (when I taught) set loved them for making little formations with.

YANBU

33 year old Playmobil addict here. Never had it as a child but DS is coming up to 3 and I can't wait to get him a few bits.

It holds it's value pretty well, you can always Ebay it if / when he outgrows it.

pumblepumble · 08/09/2015 07:55

Cupcakes get some now, don't wait. DD is 2.5 and found my box by accident, we use it every day.

Purple sky, if you're buying some ill have the mansion please.

AGrinWithoutACat · 08/09/2015 08:23

DD (11) and DS (9) clubbed together over the holidays to but a play mobile pirate ship we spotted in a charity shop. They have had hours on non bickering fun so far Smile

LetThereBeCupcakes · 08/09/2015 08:46

Would love to pumple but sadly can't afford it. Every penny being saved for Christmas at the moment. He has a couple of bits passed on from older cousins which we play with.

yeOldeTrout · 08/09/2015 09:09

DS didn't discover Playmobile until he was 8.
To be fair, he moved onto Lego pretty fast after that, too.

0x530x610x750x630x79 · 08/09/2015 09:40

I had the hospital set, what i remember most was the horrible squeaking sound taking it in and out of the polystyrene box.
A sound my kids will never hear (lucky them)
