To ask what you think Glamping is?

We're just back from a glamping weekend, having paid £110 per night for the privilege of staying in our "canvas cottage" and I feel a bit like I've been conned. Have I missed the point of glamping entirely, or am I being a bit precious?

I kind of expected a bit better service than we had - the tent was set up and the bed was made (with a duvet too small for it, which had a big stain on it), but beyond that it was very much camping in that we had to fetch our own water and look after ourselves. I kind of expected a bit of service for the money we paid - water tank being topped up for us rather than being told "there's the hose" etc.

I appreciate I sound ridiculous and there are far bigger problems in the world, but for the same price we could have had a nice room in a country pub.

So AIBU to think that glamping is just camping, not with extras or anything, just more expensive?

I've stayed in Mongolian gers. If there's no toilet pit or mice, you ain't doing it Mongolian style. £2 a night including dinner featuring whichever animal was recently slaughtered, goat, horse, camel... 3 days drive across the Gobi to the nearest municipal shower block. Awesome! Definitely not glam though Grin

Glamping is a bit lost on me. Just had a great holiday in an over sized tent, with kitchen stand, electric hookup, table and benches, thermal-rest. Perfectly comfortable, and no pretentious price tag.

I've got my own bell tent, so wouldn't dream of paying that much for one night, but I stayed in a shepherds hut for a night last week as a romantic get-away and it was FAB.
Running water, gas hob, a wood burner + fuel.
It would be expensive for a week but as an alternitive to a seedy hotel it was brilliant. Grin

I stayed original-huts.co.uk/about-us/. Here.

I thought it was camping but where they supply the tent/hut. You do the rest!

Glamping to me is camping for people who don't actually want to go camping... Just stay in a hotel.

Ha, this is about right (unless it's sleeping under a tarp, fully clothed camping). Unfortunately hotels are out for me at the moment as need self catering. Back to apartments methinks!

Noooo.

I proper camp too. Just sometimes for a short break it's nice to not have the gaff. And you don't have an open fire in an hotel. :)
