Small beans in the grand scheme of things.

DD2 has her driving test tomorrow.

She is 17 and has Aspergers. Life is bloody hard for her in ways most people have absolutely no concept of. But she is determined and works so flipping hard to be 'normal' (for want of a better word).

Being able to drive would give her so much independence and freedom. It would mean she wouldn't need to get an hour long bus journey to and from college, with associated massive anxiety and sensory crap. It would mean she could actually concentrate at college instead of having to try to wind down enough to even walk into the classroom.

Being able to drive would mean she could go to parties like a 'normal' 17 year old. But be able to leave when she needs to.

She'd be able to drive to work. We live in the sticks and her job finishes at 9pm. She is too scared to walk home in the dark. Mostly we can pick her up but both work shifts so sometimes can't.

The independence would mean she wouldn't have to rely on Mum or Dad forever.

If she doesn't pass she'll need to keep going until she does. She needs to do it.

So. Please, if you could spare a thought I'd be very thankful.

Good luck to your Daughter. She sounds fantastic. x

I'm sending her tonnes of good thoughts. My ds, age 18, also lives with ASD. Having his driving license has made a such a positive impact on his life. His confidence in himself increased tenfold. He loves the independence he now haves. Sending her all the best for tomorrow!

JontyDoggle37 · 04/09/2015 19:03

Best of luck! Tell her determination and hard work always wins, she'll do fine on account of her excellent preparation and have ready whatever celebratory treat she would feel comfortable with because SHE IS GOING TO PASS!!! (MNHQ pls can we have a Pom Poms icon for moments of cheerleading!)

SilverNightFairy · 04/09/2015 19:18

Heartfelt good luck to your DD. You both sound lovely.

HookedOnHooking · 05/09/2015 12:24

So...

She failed rather spectacularly but is weirdly fine about it. Says it was a trial run to get the nerves out of the way.
Thanks agan Flowers

Hooked, so sorry to hear that. My ds failed his first time out too. I reminded him, someone very close to him, might have failed three before passing.....

Right, so back it! She will get her nerves out of the way and hopefully find success the next time round!

PlummyBrummy · 05/09/2015 13:46

I failed first time too - all the best people do!
