To LOVE booze

twoboystwogirls · 02/09/2015 21:47

Just that really....I LOVE alcohol! My parents are tee totallers and I always think they are missing out BIG time. Plus I am sick to the back teeth with stupid useless journos telling us how bad alcohol is..are they mad?? It is BRILLIANT!!!

I love how a little bit of booze makes everything nicer. But not too much....that sucks.

err, ok.

BrandNewAndImproved · 02/09/2015 21:50

Well I do like a drink, but not enough to write a post extolling the love I have for it. Do you need help op.

Sissyinthesummertime · 02/09/2015 21:50

You been drinking?

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/09/2015 21:50

You're asking Mumsnet? Of course YANBU! GrinWine

Sallystyle · 02/09/2015 21:52

I get sick of people telling me I'm missing out because I don't drink much.

I also get sick of people trying to get me to drink when I am out when I have a fantastic time drinking coke and I'm always first up to dance. I will have one malibu when I go out and I'm happy with that. However, lots of people who like drink can't wrap their heads around the fact that I don't need to drink, it does not relax me or make me have more fun.

Your parents are not missing out.

ssd · 02/09/2015 21:54

are you 17 young op?

twoboystwogirls · 02/09/2015 21:54

Ok...I own up! I have been drinking...for the first time in over a year as I had a baby some 6 months ago. I forgot how nice it is to chill out with a glass of wine.

I must sound like such an alco...I promise I'm not...Blush

I absolutely LOVE booze too. I genuinely don't know how to live without it. It's just delicious but also I love spending my evenings slightly sozzled.

I did work in advertising for many years, so basically think that I'm now a very moderate drinker... but I do drink every day. Quite cheerily.

twoboystwogirls · 02/09/2015 22:05

Snally that is what I mean...drinking cheerily!!

Cheers to that!

I hate all the stupid negativity around being drunk. Sometimes it is just good and ok to have a drink.

Meh. It's just another intoxicant. A legal and heavily taxed one. No different to any other - kills people, ruins lives, ruins relationships - does all of that if used to excess. Just like all the others. I'd love to see how a thread titled 'I bloody love cocaine' would go down! Grin

hippoherostandinghere · 02/09/2015 22:11

I fucking hate it. Seriously it's just another drug. It ruins people's lives, it turns normal people into idiots. It puts people in very vulnerable positions. I could go on.

twoboystwogirls · 02/09/2015 22:17

I think I like it coz I just rarely have it...ok, I am so sorry everyone. I'm a douche. I should've thought about the people out there who have problems. Sorry folks. :(

Bunbaker · 02/09/2015 22:22

I love a glass or two of wine or a gin and tonic. The main point being either one or two glasses, no more.

Alcoholic BIL is a shambling wreck with alcohol induced dementia and cirrhosis of the liver so I have seen at first hand the devastating consequences of alcohol abuse.

However, it doesn't stop me from enjoying my one or two glasses of wine. I don't like getting drunk and if I drink more than two glasses I get a migraine. I don't drink every day either.

twoboystwogirls · 02/09/2015 22:29

Bunbaker that is what I mean. In moderation, it is highly enjoyable.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/09/2015 22:34

Oh there's nothing nicer than a really cold glass of wine, when everything's done, kids are in bed, partners husbands wives are out and you cab watch a movie or read a book alone in peace.

I bloody love it too.

I'm never drunk, it's the end if the week.treat to myself. fully rashioned and sensibly consumed of course.

HermioneWeasley · 02/09/2015 22:37

YABU to think that other people are missing out

YANBU to enjoy a glass of wine

I LOVE booze. I'd pour gin on my cornflakes if i could. Unfortunately I'm a recovering problem drinker so my safe level is zero.

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 02/09/2015 22:41

I never saw my dad actually properly drunk. Nevertheless, he's been an alcoholic since I was a small child. Nearly died of it a few years ago. He still drinks. People underestimate the impact of daily drinking. YABU.

Branleuse · 02/09/2015 23:05

I hear smack is pretty nice too

Bunbaker · 02/09/2015 23:16

The thing with alcohol is that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I know how devastating the effects of alcohol abuse are, but the vast majority of drinkers don't abuse alcohol. So you can't equate it with smack.

mellowheart · 02/09/2015 23:35

I like a drink or three, I think I'd be bored on a night out if I didn't drink. Saying that I can see how drink can very easily get a grip, where you'd need it every night. I just make sure I don't drink too often.

Nonnainglese · 03/09/2015 06:06
Sad I know too many people whose 'I don't drink too much' has wrecked lives and marriages. It's upto the individual of course but saying I love alcohol does strike me as being decidedly strange.
confusedandemployed · 03/09/2015 06:12

It strikes me as perfectly normal after a year off, when rediscovering how nice a glass of wine can be, to say that you love it.

Because it is lovely.

All caveats aside, as Bunbaker said, most people can enjoy a few drinks with no long term problems.

I hope you enjoyed OP!

LobsterQuadrille · 03/09/2015 07:53

YANBU and I am deeply envious of those who can enjoy a drink or two without going overboard. I'm a recovering alcoholic and can't, but that doesn't mean I mind other people drinking when we're out or that I'm (too often) tempted to go back to the very dark days. I have relapsed before but the memory of the DTs, hallucinations and seizures that come with withdrawal for some of us usually keep me on track.

Enjoy your wine, OP!

maria543 · 03/09/2015 08:03

YANBU but I do hope you don't label everyone who doesn't like a drink as a bore. Or make them feel like they're no fun. Or turn away from them when they say they'll stick with a diet coke thanks. Or start to only invite people out with you if they drink alcohol and leave anyone else out.

It's considered 'really good fun' and 'hilarious' to like a drink, and people use it in this country as a way of bonding with other people, but it can be dangerous, and some people just don't like the smell of it but that doesn't make them 'boring'. There are plenty of other countries where drinking alcohol is not such a cultural demand and people seem able to have fun with each other without being drunk.
